The gem of the first season is “Survival,” which got director Robert Altman booted from the series, along with the original producer. It was way too “arty” for boss man, Selig Seligman, who never intended an “anti-war” war series in the first place, and was probably too much for ABC, as well.

It’s nearly a one-man tour-de-force for Vic Morrow, wounded and delirious and trying to get back to the squad-while carrying a dead Nazi on his back that he keeps referring to as his brother!-RM

I saw that episode a few years ago. It’s every bit as good as you said! Maybe that’s what got Morrow his Emmy nomination for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series.

The imagery was spectacular and the story,gripping.I don't know if that's the best episode of dramatic tv I've ever seen,but I can't think of one better at the moment
