Two people were killed and three others wounded in shootings Friday night on the South and West sides, according to police.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and a 20-year-old man was shot in the head about 9 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of West 48th Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, according police.

Someone got out of a car and shouted gang slogans [N.S.: For which gang?] before shooting at the pair with a handgun, police said. The shooter then got back in the car, which fled west on 48th Street and south on Damen Avenue.

The older of the two died at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. He was identified as Alexander Mendoza by the Cook County medical examiner's office; no home address for Mendoza was available.

Police said Mendoza is affiliated with a local gang [which one, darn it!] and had an arrest history. Court records show he was arrested twice in 2011 for residential burglary and once for reckless conduct. He pleaded guilty to reckless conduct and was credit with time served and prosecutors dropped one of the burglary charges, according to records. The other burglary case was pending.

The teen is in stable condition at Stroger, police said.

About 10 minutes before that a few blocks away in Back of the Yards, an 18-year-old boy was shot in the leg near 45th Street and Hermitage Avenue, police said. He's in good condition at the University of Illinois Hospital, police said.

About 10 p.m, a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm on the 2800 block of West Madison Street in East Garfield Park on the West Side. He's in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police.

Earlier in the afternoon, Andre Myrick was shot on the 1400 block of North Keeler Avenue in Humboldt Park on the West Side and was pronounced dead about 5:50 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He lived on the 1800 block of South St. Louis Avenue.

Two people approached Myrick and both shot at him, according to police. The two suspects then ran north up the block, got into a dark-colored van and fled south on Keeler Avenue, police said.
