GRA, I believe that that "500,000" figure is many years old, and that the current figure would be at least 1,000,000.

Florida ALONE has over a half-million,
then it gives state-by-state numbers (55 in Wyoming),
arriving at a grand total of 1,089,213. Which also seems low. Family pets beware, coast to coast.
