Did Karen Read murder Austin Metcalf?

Karmelo Anthony charged with first-degree, hmmmmm... didn’t expect that. Can’t imagine finding a jury honest and based enough to go along with that 12-0. Are they trying to get him to plead guilty to second? Manslaughter would be too far down the ladder for an ambitious DA, wouldn’t it?

Can’t resist one more application à la Howie Carr caller: ‘Investigators have found pieces of taillight at the track meet venue leading them to believe that Austin Metcalf was actually run over by Karen Read (squealing tires, * crash *).

The jury foreman, by the way, was said to be a large black dude wearing a chain and, by one report, dreadlocks down to his waist. Then he showed up on camera on the today show, must have been remote video, he wasn’t on the set. The chain was there but the hair was hidden, and they agreed to let him remain nameless, addressing him as “juror #1.” The anchors fished around for eight minutes and couldn’t get anything out of him except, “we went by the evidence,” over and over. Another juror who has done a lot of interviews is a stay-at-home mom who is/was a licensed attorney in brazil. It’s like half of brazil has moved to mass., including the illegal kid arrested by ice while driving his illegal father’s car (ice was primarily after the father).

All black jurors know how to write is,"Not guilty".

On this one, I think the prosecution was hoping that black guy and brazilian woman and whoever else would vote to send white girl to prison.

There's an issue with confusing verdict slips there in Norfolk County. Supposedly it was a not-guilty on the murder charges in the first trial and the second trial was double jeopardy. Then more confusion last week in Trial #2.

Verdict day, 2:30pm, jurors gave something to court officers then no-they-didn't, so the judge made a big deal about not looking at it but "sealing" it. Then the real verdict came out at 3pm.

Kind of like the Donovan song, "First there is a verdict / Then there is no verdict / Then there is".

X Post (go to link for photo of a blank verdict slip - I had to look at it for awhile and think about it - and yeah, it does need to be clearer):

Court resumed briefly and it got testy.
AJ [defense attorney Alan Jackson] tells Judge the verdict slip is incorrect.
He says there is no "not guilty" box to check on the lesser included charges of involuntarily manslaughter and motor vehicle homicide .
He tells Judge, "They need to see there is not a guilty option" and "I don't care how they do it in Massachusetts"
Judge says no.
