We’ve got Jason Vargas, 35, starting tonight. Vargas (0-3) has started three games, never lasted beyond the fourth, and has an era of 13.86.
That was not a typo.
Vargas gives up hits, walks, and homers. Outs, not so much.
Last year, Vargas had a career year, in which he went 18-11 and led the AL in wins. Before that, he was a bum, and now he’s a bum.
What does that make you think of?
Meanwhile, the Mets have only four arms, and some of them shaky, to fill out a five-man rotation: Jacob de Grom, Noah Syndergaard, Zach Wheeler and Steven Matz.
