The Great Chicago Memorial Day Gang Attack Cover-Up

[To a 911 dispatcher:] There's a fight breaking out on the beach because there's nothing but animals covering this beach today. What the hell is going on?

[To NBC Chicago reporter Dick Johnson:] They were being rude and abusive and throwing trash around and defecating. The crowd became very animated. They were cheering on the beating and more people joined in, so I kept walking forward. I was afraid I could be next….

[In a later comment:] There was another beach closed that day – Rainbow Beach – due to gang violence and a shooting death. Many of those beach goers headed to Oak Street and North Ave [beaches] exacerbating the problems that day.

Memorial Day weekend saw blacks in their twenties, teens, and even younger riot across the country… and also saw many public officials and media outlets seek to variously cover-up or minimize the incidents, and/or retaliate against those who brought them to the public’s attention.

One such set of incidents took place at Chicago beaches. Some Memorial Day stories reported that new, white mayor Rahm Emanuel had supposedly shut down Chicago’s North Avenue and Oak Street beaches, due to at least half-a-dozen cases of “heat exhaustion.” It turned out that the Chicago Police Department had engineered a cover-up; the real problem was vicious attacks, robberies, and terroristic threats by black gangs.

Already at the time, there was talk that “heat exhaustion” was just a cover-story for black gang violence. As the Chicago Sun-Times’ Fran Spielman reported on June 1,

Emanuel said speculation that violence or gang trouble may have played a role in the decision to close the beach “was not shared with me.”

[Mayor Rahm Emanuel defends police for closing beach on Memorial Day by Fran Spielman, Chicago Sun-Times, May 31, 2011 12:06 p.m.; updated on June 1, 2011, 6:54 a.m.]

Since then, the spit has been hitting the fan.

A number of emergency calls on Memorial Day could pose a credibility problem for Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his new police superintendent.

The official word from city officials has been that North Avenue Beach was closed that holiday due to concerns for public health. But calls made by beach-goers to Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications seem to support claims that gang activity was also at play.

“There's a fight breaking out on the beach, because there's nothing but animals covering this beach today,” one caller is heard saying in recordings obtained by WLS-AM radio through a Freedom of Information Act request. [N.S. Listen to at least four emergency calls about the violence at the two beaches. And according Amy Schwartz, the 911 caller just quoted, many of the thugs had first committed violent crimes at Chicago’s Rainbow Beach.]

“You can't even walk along the bike path or ride along the bike path. There's the crowd control. What the hell is going on?” the caller fumes.

Another caller selling chairs and umbrellas at the Oak Street Beach concession stand also called 911 after he said he was harassed.

“We have a couple of gentlemen, well, actually a few people, threatening to shoot us, threatening to whoop our ass. They're unhooking our equipment,” the caller said.

By 6 p.m. on that holiday, the beach was closed.

In a statement released late Thursday evening, police officials said the release of the calls changes nothing, and maintained that the decision to close the beach was made “in the interest of public safety and public health.”

[N.S. I’ll bet. Getting beaten to death is neither safe nor healthy.]

Indeed, with temperatures in the 90s, about a half-dozen people at North Avenue Beach were treated for heat exhaustion. Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said ambulances could not get to victims.

“Chicago police responded to incidents at Oak Street Beach, however no arrests were made in connection to any batteries at this location,” the department said.

By BJ Lutz, Jeff Goldblatt, NBC Chicago, June 24, 2011.]

CPD: We didn’t arrest anyone, so there weren’t any crimes committed. Got it? Keep up with the questions, and maybe we’ll give you a case of “heat exhaustion” upside your head!

Stan Kusiak, of Sumava Resorts, Indiana, commented,

If you lied about this, what else do you fudge with. What is the correct number of murders in the city?

And Patti Reynertson, of Northern Illinois University added,

This just in: It's hot in the summer so all behavior is tolerated, apparently.

“All behavior” by members of certain groups, that is; but “no tolerance for the intolerant”!

The following story includes an interview with Amy Schwartz, the heroic little lady who was one of the people who had called 911.

Woman Believes Beach Violence Covered Up
City officials say incidents handled promptly
By Dick Johnson
NBC Chicago
June 29, 2011

A Chicago woman who played witness to a beach melee on Memorial Day weekend wants Chicago police and officials to come clean about what happened along the lakefront in May.

City officials said they closed North Avenue Beach on May 30 because of excessive heat, but Amy Schwartz says no one is talking about the excessive violence that prompted her to call 911 that day.

"There's a fight breaking out on the beach because there's nothing but animals covering this beach today," Schwartz phoned into the police. "What the hell is going on?"

Schwartz said she was walking from Oak Street Beach toward North Avenue Beach on Memorial Day when she witnessed a woman being beaten by a gang of people on the beach.

"They were being rude and abusive and throwing trash around and defecating," Schwartz said. "The crowd became very animated. They were cheering on the beating and more people joined in, so I kept walking forward. I was afraid I could be next."

Schwartz believes the story of what really happened that day is being purposely downplayed in the name of saving Chicago's summer tourist business and the reputations of the city's new mayor and police superintendent.

Both Garry McCarthy and Rahm Emanuel have said the people suffering from heat exhaustion was the only reason for closing the beach. A city spokesman says the violence calls were handled promptly, and deny there's any attempt to spin the facts.

But they haven't convinced everyone.

"There were other calls that I heard on the tapes reporting the same incident I saw," Schwartz said. "I know we didn’t all have the same hallucination. Denial is not protecting anyone. I expect them to acknowledge the truth and do something about it."

Police presence has been boosted significantly at the beach since Memorial Day.
[N.S. But I there was no violence, why waste tens of thousands of dollars on clearly unnecessary additional cops?]

The City of Chicago has a long standing policy of covering up hate crimes commited on Whites. The City is terrified that if the Whites ever knew how much they were being attacked due to there race that they would flee the City leaving Chicago Like Detroit, Michigan or Gary, Indianna. Lets all not forget all the white kids getting attacked at Kennedy high school & during one of the mini riots that the black kids tried to take a police officers fire arm when he was wrestling a kid down. Why has the media been so gun shy over the last twenty years and will not say the color of a criminal that is being sought after. Wake up. The City of Chicago must stop listeming to a bunch of degenerate storefront preachers and so called community leaders and start aggressively getting scum bags off the street. It is not the Police Department's fault that these violent criminals are black. The community leaders that make excuses for the criminals need to be ignored. The silent majority in the City want our streets back and do not care about the cries of a handful of degenerate community leaders that our previous Mayor cow tailed to and continiously payed off with grant after grant and social program after social program. Now that we have Rahm in there. The City can fight back and not one person will be able to call Rahm a racist when he cleans up the streets. Rahm needs to man up and take back the streets.

The next comment, from Monroe Anderson, follows. While Joe Flynn posted no photograph of himself, Monroe Anderson posted a picture of a black man.

@Joe Flynn Where are you coming uo with this idiotic dribble? As a result of high unemployment, bad schools and the War on Drugs, crime is rappant in far too many parts of the black community. When it spills over into areas where whites are, or should whites happen to wander into the middle of it, it's not a hate crime, it's a crime of opportunity. More than 90 percent of the victims of black crime are black people. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're writing out of ignorance and not racism.

[NS: Beating someone to a pulp, or even to death, without even robbing him is a “crime of opportunity”? What’s the opportunity? Oh, yeah: To kill whitey!

Let police stop making drug arrests in black communities, and you will hear “racism!” screamed louder than ever. Then again, blacks scream “racism!” no matter what police do.]

Thank you for your support. My issues were very simple - (1) Keep the police where they are most needed/wanted. (2) Do not deny - instead acknowledge and advise - what was done, what could have been done better, what has been done since, what will be done ongoing. This is the way to serve the public's best interests and ensure confidence and trust.

The problem that day was not that policy were not doing their job - the problem was that there was a disproportation number of police to the size of the crowd and there was an inability to manage crowd control. I saw one bicycle cop between Oak Street and North Ave and only a couple policemen at North Ave. I never saw them reach the scene of the beating as I watched for over an hour from Castaways. I never heard them close the beach - I left well after 6pm and the beach was still open – people were disbursing, but not because of beaches being closed.

The city would be best served if the Mayor and those in charge of the Municipalities would do three simple things:
ANTICIPATE, ACT, ADJUST –
Anticipate issues, Act to prevent and/or deal with them. Adjust accordingly when the actions taken are not enough or too much.

I am a project manager. I have found these to be the golden rules in work as well as life.

There was another beach closed that day – Rainbow Beach – due to gang violence and a shooting death. Many of those beach goers headed to Oak Street and North Ave [beaches] exacerbating the problems that day.

Anything I have stated has been what I have witnessed personally or corroborated by others that have personal knowledge. I am not an alarmist nor am I irrational or fearful. I am a concerned citizen and someone that LOVES the city of Chicago and I protect those that I care for.

Amy- Thank you for standing up against these animals, because this is not the first time this has happened. Last year the Monday before Memorial day, the same thing happened. My family and I had taken a stroll down the beach enjoying the hot summer night and once we reached North Ave. beach the scene on the beach turned very scary. The beach was covered in young kids up to no good and gang members flashing gang signs and taunting the few officers on the beach. Several of us called 911 and connected NBC the next day, who interviewed a family member of mine and exactly what you said in your interview my family experienced the year before on that hot Monday night.

This crap needs to STOP because I'm getting tired of paying taxes and not being able to use the beach! This is the second time this has happened and I understand this is Emanuel first time dealing with this, but I’m going to tell you if the beaches and the neighborhoods this animals walk through to get to the beach do not stay safe this summer and next year and next year at this time, I already have a list of high paying tax payers that will make this violence at the beach a headache for the mayor and police chief. Parents who are reading this, get off your butt and discipline your kids, because it’s not the responsibility of the police or public! To all the police women and men on the front lines thanks for everything you do!

The fatal Rainbow Beach shooting that Amy Schwartz refers to is not to be confused with the three execution-style murders committed in broad daylight, at 1 p.m. on May 25, 2010, near Rainbow Beach, or the September 4, 2010 shooting of four people near Rainbow Beach at a barbecue, all of whom survived.

Award-winning, leftwing New York Times “reporter,” Don Terry, contributed to the cover-up, by telling a few whoppers and giving a one-sided, anti-white history lecture.

Terry asserted that there was no Memorial Day violence at North Avenue Beach, only “rumors,” that regarding the multiple black-on-white gang (“flash mob”) attacks during June, “What role race played in the attacks is unclear,” and giving a phony “history” of the integration of Chicago’s previously segregated white beaches, in which whites were murderous racists, while blacks were noble heroes and victims.

[Memorial Day:] So rumors quickly spread that the real reason the police had moved in was because packs of young men were cruising for trouble and something bad was about to happen.

Nothing did — at least not at North Avenue.

Terry wrote two weeks before the tapes of the 911 calls surfaced. Are we supposed to believe that those 911 calls were fabricated?

Don Terry is going to lie his way right into some more “journalism” awards.

I followed up on Jay Ryan’s tip, and found that he wasn’t exaggerating. One year earlier, black teenaged gang-bangers had completely taken over North Avenue Beach, and were shooting and brutally beating people at whim.

Increased Patrols Following Beach Violence
Gang violence took over North Ave. Beach earlier this week

The Guardian Angels are among the authorities patrolling the North Avenue Beach area Wednesday night following several bouts of violence earlier this week.

In the most severe, a teenager who witnesses said was flashing gang signs was shot Monday night and remains in critical condition.

Earlier that evening, police say six 15-year-olds, including four boys and two girls, attacked an 18-year-old Barrington girl and hit her in the face at about 8 p.m. Monday.

Charges against the teens ranged from resisting a police officer to aggravated battery to a police officer.

"It was probably gang-related because this year it seems like more gangs are coming out," said Rocco Nedas, who has worked at the beach for two summers and says the beach could have its own reality show.

Two hours later and just steps away in the tunnel that connects the lakefront trail with Inner Lake Shore drive, words turned to violence between two bikers and a group of pedestrians as the bikers were trying to pass. There were no serious injuries, but two more teens were arrested and charged with assault and battery.

One beach goer said she couldn't believe how many people were openly flashing gang signs and starting fights until police arrived in heavy numbers.

"There were probably 50 squad cars, no exaggeration, 100 police officers or so, undercover [and] regular police officers. The beach was full with about 1,000 people and it wasn't your typical Monday night, lakefront young professionals," said Katie Ryan.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley downplayed the incidents during remarks Wednesday.

"They're isolated incidences. We look at it. We look at it very carefully. We make sure we have better lighting, we make sure we have access there, we make sure the beach patrol is out there as early as possible."

Police were out Wednesday morning searching coolers for alcohol. It's not allowed on park district property and Beach House employees say it's the root cause of much of the violence.

"I've seen people pass out a lot. Police are always coming here, ambulances coming here taking people away," Nedas said.

[N.S. Yeah, it’s those passed-out drunks who are flashing gang signs, committing gang beatings, and shooting people. In their sleep. That’s the ticket. Meanwhile, the police and Rocco Nedas are profiling drunks, and violating their civil rights. By the way, that wouldn’t be the same Rocco Nedas who, earlier in the story, said the problem was gangs, would it? Maybe police should be searching for gangs? Perish the thought!]

we typically beef up the police presence along the lakefront around Memorial Day, something that is expected with warmer temperatures and increased traffic there. This year will be no exception," said Chicago police Lt. Maureen Biggane.

I’ve been working on a project researching the black race riots and savage black gang violence, much of it consisting of racist attacks on whites and Asians that has gone on continuously since Memorial Day for a project for VDARE’s Peter Brimelow. The scope of the violence is so massive that it would require at least 30,000 words to chronicle it. However, for some inexplicable reason, Peter is not fond of editing 30,000-word manuscripts. Thus, I am forced to spin off some of these stories as blogs.
