“Hot lips”—now “cold lips” Houlihan—actress Loretta Swit dead at 87
By Grand Rapids Anonymous
“(hollywood reporter) Loretta Swit, the actress and animal activist forever known for her pioneering [?!] turn as the disciplined [?] Maj. Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan on the acclaimed CBS sitcom M*A*S*H, has died. she was 87.
[N.S.: Apparently, the affirmative action hollywood reporter operative who wrote this obit, Lisa de los Reyes, never saw the show. Reyes may also have used ai in putting together this "thing."]
“according to a police report, Swit died just after midnight friday of suspected natural causes [“suspected natural causes”?! Since when do you say that?] at her home in new york city, her publicist, Harlan Boll, announced.
“Swit won two emmys for her portrayal of the army nurse — she was nominated 10 times, every year the show was on the air except the first — and appeared on 240 of the series’ 251 episodes during its sensational 11-season run.”
GRA: Pretty long run for Loretta Swit. The first three years of M*A*S*H were great with her, Wayne Rogers, Larry Linville, McLean Stevenson and Alan Alda, plus Gary Burghoff. After Rogers and Stevenson left in 1975, the show was basically unwatchable with Harry Morgan and Mike Farrell.

N.S.: Agreed about the post-McLean Stevenson and Wayne Rogers M*A*S*H, GRA. Mike Farrell was a terrible actor who apprently got work, due to being a communist. As for thr, media outlets normally have an obit on file for every famous person, which will then get supplemented with the time, place, and cause of death, but this one had minimal or downright misleading (“disciplined”) background information. A journalist would also know that Swit had starred on broadway in Same Time, Next Year and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Swit was married for 11 years (1983-1995) to fellow actor Dennis Holahan. They had no children.
Swit was a vegetarian and an animal rights activist. Apparently, such leftwing engagements have been required in hollywood for generations, if one would like to work regularly.

She was also a bigmouth "feminist." 'Nuff said. Good- looking, though no Sally Kellerman.
Never saw the series- can't stand Alan Alda! Funny thing though, a few times I came across it by accident when it was in reruns, and it was always the same episode (out of how many, over 200?)- Alda and some broad (don't think it was Swit) are trapped by a cave-in, and with one quick transition, they're under the sheets together! Yeah, just what would happen in that kind of situation. The scene was so obnoxious I kind of figured that would be the tone of the series. (Of course, I HATED the movie!)

Farrell--singlehandedly--changed M*A*S*H,from a comedy,into a drama. Only a couple Hawkeye(Groucho)jokes a show kept it from being more boring than "Archie Bunker's Place".

Houlihan...Holahan(married name)--let's call the whole thing off.

What I'll always remember most about Hot Lips were the non pc bordering (well, the shower scene was beyond that) on sexual harassment pranks that got played on her. One episode of MASH I remember the doctors were supposed to inject each other with some kind of vaccine, but it needed to be delivered in the buttocks, with pants down. Somehow Hawkeye was assigned the task of injecting Hoolihan and he couldn't stop going on about her magnificent hindquarters while she grimaced at his attempts to prolong the procedure and see more of her naked rear end. That kind of humor is strictly verboten by humorless woke censors nowadays.
As much as Frank Burns attempted to evoke false bravado,he was scared ****less in Korea and without "Hot Lips"--AND vice versa---neither character was as happy--or funny, after they split up in season four/five. Another ingredient in the downfall of M*A*S*H. There were many. It should have definitely gone off the air after Linville left--and if not then, when Radar went home(season 8?)

Here's Loretta Swit giving the clues to McLean Stevenson on the original $10,000 Pyramid.
There's an episode of THE AVENGERS that begins with a close-up of Mrs. Peel's backside in her tight pants, and Steed's voice-over saying, "Isn't it magnificent?" Turns out he's talking about an antique car she's leaning against. That's the difference between clever innuendo and crass humor.

In their prime. I watched many of those $25,000 Pyramid shows on YouTube the last few years. Also Shatner and Nimoy was an entertaining week too.

"The Avengers"--a great series. Couldn't Steed have been complimenting both? He had good enough writers to allow him that bit of playfulness. I watched all the episodes about 10 years ago with my mom. She was a fan when it originally came on U.S. TV and enjoyed them again years later. Quality shows never go bad(though they may stay on too long).
