Frank Howard, former All-Star, home run champ, and World Series winner, dies at 87
N.S.: "Two years [sic] later, Howard helped Los Angeles win a World Series against the Yankees." That was the post, but it was three years later, in 1963.
Howard was the Mets' manager for most of one season, and a coach with the team for parts of four. One of the team's tv announcers recalled, years ago, that Howard put the team through by far the toughest workouts they'd ever experienced.

He was the Primo Carnera of baseball--before Dave Kingman showed up.I thought he had left the "field of play" long ago.
"A good guy,"everyone(announcers)always said in his playing days."A gentle giant,with awesome power when he connected."
In those days,you never saw the great players(Howard wasn't a great,but good enough)except in All Star Games and World Series or that so called,game of the week on Saturday.That was too bad.
