Paying Attention and Noticing Things

By Nicholas Stix

The above title is my nomination for the next slogan for Countenance blog. My inspiration: The Countenance Blogmeister himself, who may be (unconsciously?) telegraphing his intentions.

The current slogan, “I used to have dreams, but they drowned in a spreadsheet,” is perfectly good, but the Blogmeister changes his slogan every few months, and so one must get out ahead, if one would influence history.

Here is a suggestion.

St. Louis! AT ONE TIME THE FOURTH MOST POPULACE CITY IN THE UNITED STATES. NOT NOW!!

At one point, St. Louis was third.

Countenance,

Was that during the 19th century, when multiculturally deprived St. Louis was one of America's cultural centers?

NS,

1870 census technically had STL fourth, but that was because Brooklyn and New York City were counted separately. Our civic pride ego drives us to say that we were third.

We were fourth as late as 1910, only behind NY, Chi, Phila.
