In a big city like NY,you can't tell me crime is down, unless white population is up--and I haven't heard that.Is the lower murder rate true,or statistical b.s.?

The operative principle in the Sgt Barry case - as in ALL instances where violent, armed (in one way or another), erratically-behaving blacks attack a (white) cop - is: 'the black has a license to (potentially) kill the cop, in which case the cop has the duty to allow himself to be attacked, and perhaps killed'.
Increasingly - unless the perp is pointing a gun at a cop, he has no right to protect himself - no matter what the 'sick' person is armed with.
Even if (against all sensible policing protocol) he decides to remove himself from the encounter (ie, 'to flee'), in a crowded, chaotic small apartment - often with other hostile 'family members' - this option simply isn't available.
Thousands of instances of use of 'non-lethal intervention' - such as a taser - have proven insufficient to stop - or even slow - a schizoid, manic or more likely PCP/'Spice'- fueled maniac from killing a cop.
It begs the question, why it is that in ALL such cases of raging, racist attacks on cops, that the person shot is always described as mentally ill, while the cop is described as having 'poor judgement' in his policing, and for having defended his own life as a last resort.

RE: GRA's question - if you follow this blog, you will have read many reports of the many options police depts - everywhere - have to 'cook the books' to create a rosier crime picture than actually exists, most easily by changing the severity of various crimes necessary to qualify as certain felonies - instead recording them as misdemeanors.
In many cases it appears that crimes are simply not recorded.
Crime is up significantly in the subways in the last two years, overall 'quality of life' - as measured by homelessness, the 'downgrading' (or elimination) of minor crimes - such as smoking dope or drinking in public, public urination, etc - is undeniably down, by any measure.
As the Post reported today, the main reason that PD Commish O'Neill decided to get out of Dodge, is he knows that if the 'Progressive criminal reforms' supported by DeBlasio and his coterie of criminal supremacists gets pushed forward, serious crime will skyrocket - and the decades worth of civilization advancement following Giuliani's and Bloomberg's work will be destroyed.
