An 18-year-old Silver Spring man has been arrested in connection with the hit and run death that occurred early Saturday in the Langley Park area of Prince George’s County, the county police said.
Police said Monday that Juan Josua Chavez, of Mt. Pisgah Lane, was charged with second degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Manuel Mendoza, 34.
Mendoza, of Lewisdale Drive in the Hyattsville area, was found dead about 3:40 a.m. in the 2000 block of University Boulevard, police said.
Police said that there had been an altercation earlier among people leaving a night club in that block.
Afterward, police said, people got into a car, which was driven against traffic toward people walking on the sidewalk. Police said they believed that Mendoza was struck intentionally. The car drove off, police said.

Ah yes, Langley Park. Where the CVS has all the aisle signs in Spanish only. Welcome to the third world.

Based on the description given in the article, there's no way this should be called a "hit-and-run." In other murder cases, where the suspect leaves the scene of the crime to avoid detection, do we call it "stab-and-run" or "shoot-and-run"? I'm glad there's an extra offense to nab this guy on, but this was intentional murder, not a traffic accident.

I live up the street from this neighborhood (in Takoma Park, in Montgomery County), and it really has gotten out of control.
The loitering, the public drunkenness, the crime -- it's disgusting. I had to go to the emergency room for stitches at Adventist Hospital after I cut my foot on a Friday night in my basement, and it was nothing but a drunk tank. Rows and rows of cots lined up with snoozing drunks. They get drunk, they pass out or get into a fight or hurt themselves, and they end up in the emergency room sleeping it off on our health care dollar. It was like a third world country, not a hospital just a few hundred yards away from the Washington D.C. line.
I am not anti-immigration. And I am not a racist. I consider myself a liberal. But this is a problem. It's a big problem. And it needs to be resolved. And the only way to resolve it is, frankly, to crack down on illegal immigration. There is nothing wrong with filling out the proper paperwork and waiting for legal admission to this country. It's the way my great-grandparents did it.

A hit and run in Langley Park. Not shocking. MOST accidents in Langley Park are hit and runs.
