CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two people have died in a horrific wrong-way crash on Chicago's South Side Wednesday evening, officials said.
Seven vehicles were involved in the crash near the intersection of 87th and Cottage Grove in the Chatham neighborhood.
A black Dodge Charger was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Cottage Grove at a "very high rate of speed" around 5 p.m. before entering the intersection and striking seven cars, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said. The Charger then stopped in traffic, facing southbound, and immediately caught fire, killing the two occupants in the vehicle.
Six vehicles were involved in the crash at 87th and Cottage Grove after a stolen vehicle caused a chain-reaction crash while driving the wrong-way, police say.
"This is a really bad crash," Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford said. "I've seen many, many -- and this is among the worst."
Langford said that the Charger is believed to have set off a chain-reaction crash, according to witnesses on the scene.
Brown said 16 people, including nine children and seven adults, were in the other vehicles that were struck and have been taken to hospitals from the scene. At least four of those people are critically injured, and one was described as "very critical."
The most-seriously injured victim was in the vehicle that flipped onto its roof.
The Dodge Charger was reported stolen out of Markham earlier in the day Wednesday, according to Brown. A "long-rifle type of firearm" was also discovered in the Charger, Brown added.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot stopped at the scene, urging that people slow down.

"This is something that we can control. Just take your foot off the gas and obey the local speed limits," the mayor said.
(GRA:How about,"don't steal cars." This may be the stupidest thing Lightfoot could say after black thugs steal a car---"slow down?")
Last year, there were approximately 150 traffic-related fatalities in Chicago, Lightfoot said, adding that the city already has 100 so far this year.

Nice little shop, I've been in there a couple of times but it's hardly the only one, a number have closed due to homeless camps interfering with foot traffic and contributing to crime. Local politicians blow a lot of hot air on the subject but haven't done much, though just before the mid terms mayor Ted Wheeler announced he was going to start enforcing no camping ordinances. Haven't heard anything after the elections but we'll see if he follows through. Reading through BB comments, there were, as usual when Portland makes the news, a lot of people accusing Oregon citizens of electing the same old Dem politicians and getting what they ask for. While there is an element of truth there, I posted the following in response to that accusation. I got one response, which I sort of understand but am a Portland homeowner so can't get fully aboard:

For people that keep accusing OR voters of electing the same pro crime dems in year after year, understand that it is Portland voters that elect the state leaders, it's the only major urban center in OR and has the lions share of the population. Despite rising rents and inflation, PDX is still the least expensive metro city on the west coast which results in a large yearly influx of youngish, Woke liberal types who have liberal arts degrees and pull coffee at Starbucks, so can't afford to live in Seattle, LA, San Fran or San Diego. Drazan lost by a whisker to Kotek this year in the Guv race and it was those Wokesters that pushed the numbers in Kotek's direction because there's nothing those gender confused, blue haired, far left Wokesters love more than a lesbian candidate for any kind of political office. So it's not really established Oregonians that are responsible for electing these pro crime, anti middle class, high tax, globalist tool politicians but those imports coming from places around the country that make the difference...very possibly the very city or state you, who are calling us out, are typing from. Tell you what, if you stop inflicting them on us and they won't get on the voter rolls here in Oregon.

There is some sort of racial angle to this story that the media will not cover. But what is it? Drug house stash? Indian corner shop ethnics flashing too much bling?

Elections without a competitive opposition to oppose the incumbent. That Wheeler had only one opponent. An avowed communist running as a Democrat.

Gonna be a lot more of it. Seems when all the bad starts nowadays it never stops. You would think the business people would go to the major and say: "stop this nonsense!" I guess they did but nothing occurred that was positive.
You might not want to believe the government is in league with communists and violent anarchists but that seems to be the case.
