Knoxville Horror News
It never ends with the Christian-Newsom torture-murders.
A week ago there was a news item at Knoxville's nbc station concerning the appeal by "alleged ringleader" Lemaricus Davidson.
An appeals court has taken up the case. At his 2009 trial, Davidson and his attorneys insisted on a Knox County jury. Judge Baumgartner, you will recall, begged them to have a jury outside of Knox County.
From later testimony, Davidson's lawyers thought it would be impossible to get an impartial local jury, which would presumably lead to a plea bargain without the death penalty. They were told if the defense requested a Knox County jury, the verdict could not be appealed on the basis of a "prejudicial jury." Davidson and attorneys still insisted on a jury from Knoxville.
To their (perhaps) surprise, a local jury was impaneled. After a trial in which the defense viciously slandered the victims, Davidson was found guilty and sentenced to death.
Now, Davidson's appellate lawyers are appealing on the very basis they are not supposed to be able to appeal from.
Also, the lone female convicted in the Knoxville Horror, Vanessa Coleman, comes up for parole again in December.
