"a conservative watchdog organization has filed a lawsuit against the Cook county state's attorney under Kimberly Foxx claiming that the Foxx administration has failed to turn over records requested under a freedom of information request (foia) concerning one of Cook county state's attorney's top prosecutors.
"judicial watch filed the lawsuit asking the court to compel the Foxx administration to turn over records, including emails, of Michelle Mbekeani, head of Cook county state's attorney Kimberly Foxx's conviction review unit. judicial watch requested the records in the wake of attacks against Mbekeani by Cook county judge Michael McHale. judge McHale ruled that Mbekeani's role in an organization that helps convicted offenders find defense attorneys was a conflict of interest for a prosecutor.

"judge McHale also ruled that Mbekeani lied in her explanations about her ties to the organization and banned Mbekeani from his courtroom.

"the judicial watch foia cited a december 6 article in the sun-times about Mbekeani's new role as the head of the conviction review unit.
"it's not the first time private parties have gone to court to enforce foia requests against the Foxx administration. chicago city wire has been forced to go to court in an effort to compel Foxx's office to turn over records pertaining to dozens of exonerations that have taken place since Foxx was elected, particularly those tied to a retired detective Reynaldo Guevara.
