TCM’s Film Noir of the Week Saturday Night-Sunday Morning at 12:45 and 10 a.m. ET is Richard Fleischer’s Follow Me Quietly (1949) with William Lundigan, Dorothy Patrick, Jeff Corey and Edwin Max.
Film Noir Guide: “‘I have been ordained to destroy all evil. Beware! The Judge.’ This foreboding note is one of many clues to the identity of a psychopathic, self-righteous serial killer (Max).
“In a silly piece of police work, homicide detectives Lundigan and Corey construct a faceless mannequin based on the many vague descriptions provided by witnesses and begin showing photographs of it around town.
“Despite the absurd premise, this low-budget noir works well thanks to a well-developed script and solid performances by Lundigan as the frustrated cop and Patrick as the eager reporter.
David in TN: Follow Me Quietly is only 59 minutes but has a fair amount of plot. It has a great scene. This one has been on Noir Alley previously, like most of Red Eddie Muller’s selections in recent months. Here are some excellent Noir films yet to be on Noir Alley:
Robert Siodmak’s The Killers (1946): Sometimes on TCM, but not on Noir Alley.
The Enforcer (1951): Humphrey Bogart plays the prosecutor of Murder, Inc.
The Woman on Pier 13 (1950): Anti-Communist film.
I Was a Communist for the F.B.I. (1951): Excellent portrayal of Communists.
Walk East on Beacon (1952): A realistic film of F.B.I. agents against Soviet sleeper operatives. Filmed on actual Boston locations.
To my knowledge, Walk East on Beacon was on TCM once a dozen years ago. The late host, Robert Osborne, denounced it in his intro.

okaloosa county sheriff Eric Aden showed the video during a thursday news conference, shortly after an attorney for the 23-year-old airman’s family called for its public release, saying the victim’s girlfriend was facetiming with him and believes the deputy was at the wrong unit.
“the victim was identified by his family as Roger Fortson, an active-duty senior airman, according to attorney Ben Crump, who held a news conference earlier thursday. Crump and Fortson’s mother described him as a patriot who respected authority and hoped to buy his mother and younger siblings a house.
“the sheriff, who met with Fortson’s family shortly before his news conference, said he asked the florida department of law enforcement division to handle the criminal investigation, as is required. while that probe is ongoing, he said, ‘no determination has been made as to whether the deputy’s actions were justified or not.’ the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
‘what we do know at this time is that the deputy did announce himself, not once but twice,’ Aden said. ‘mr. Fortson’s comments indicate that he did acknowledge it was law enforcement at the door and he arrived at the door with a firearm in his hand. the deputy knocked on the correct door, he did not cover the peephole or otherwise obscured its view in any way.

“‘the deputy shot the man, who later succumbed to his injuries,’ said the sheriff. the deputy involved in the shooting has not been identified by officials.
“the bodycam footage, dated may 3, begins at roughly 4:28 p.m. with a deputy arriving at what appears to be an apartment complex.
“a woman at the complex is heard telling the deputy there was a disturbance in apartment 1401 and that it was ‘getting out of hand.
“the same woman tells the deputy she previously walked by the apartment and heard yells and ‘a slap,’ but added she wasn't sure where it came from.
“the deputy takes the elevator to the fourth floor and knocks on a door three times. the apartment number ‘1401’ is visible in the footage. he announces himself twice, saying, ‘sheriff’s office, open the door.’ there is nothing heard on the footage from inside the apartment.
“within seconds of the apartment’s door opening, the deputy says ‘step back,’ and is then seen firing his weapon. Fortson is seen standing at the door with his hands down and what appears to be a lowered firearm in his right hand. he immediately falls to the floor as the deputy fires. at least five shots are heard.

Apparently, the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic haven't been learned. Dangerous biolab experiments continue – humanity be damned. According to the Daily Mail, Chinese scientists have engineered a virus with parts of Ebola in a lab that killed a group of hamsters. A team of researchers at Hebei Medical University used a contagious disease of livestock and added a protein found in Ebola, which allows the virus to infect cells and spread throughout the human body. The group of hamsters that received the lethal injection 'developed severe systemic diseases similar to those observed in human Ebola patients,' including multi-organ failure,' the study shared.
The results of this study were predictably horrific, One particularly horrific symptom saw the infected hamsters develop secretions in their eyes, which impaired their vision and scabbed over the surface of the eyeballs.
A decade ago, Ebola ravaged parts of Africa. Ebola has an average fatality rate of 50%, Ebola virus disease, once known by, Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is defined by the iconic hemorrhagic fever, but more common symptoms are non-specific such as fever, malaise, headache, diarrhea, or vomiting. The disease can quickly progress to multi-organ system failure leading to shock followed by death. The case-fatality rate ranges from 25% to 90%; the average case fatality rate is about 50%.
