They obviously don't expect to be repatriated:

They probably won't be.
Typically members of the Green Party and the SPD block action in DE to declare countries in North Africa ('Marokko, Algerien und Tunesien') as 'sicheren Herkunftsstaaten' = secure countries of origin, despite the fact Tunisia and Morocco once wanted to host the World Cup soccer tournament together -- designating them as secure would allow asylum applications from these nationals to be more easily rejected -- here's a story from 2018 about it:
But in Jan 2019 the Bundestag actually did vote for this:
It was opposed by die Linke (basically communists), Greens, and some SPD members.
>Bundesrat muss noch zustimmen
But the Bundesrat (a deliberative body concerned with constitutional issues) did not allow this to become law -- all the German states (Länder) are represented in the Bundesrat, and the leftwing parties (Linke, Greens, SPD) have more influence there -- this is not the first time the Bundesrat has prevented reasonable legislation from becoming law.
Europe is now 'Camp of the Saints', and it looks like Europeans will not stop it.
YES. Really glamorous. Especially when your overloaded vessel capsizes and you drown. At those last few moments the soon-to-be-dparted asks if it was all worth it.
