“Families of Sandy Hook victims settled their lawsuit Tuesday with Remington Arms, manufacturer of the AR-15 automatic gun used to kill 20 kids and 6 staff members in the 2012 massacre.
“The nine families brought a class-action suit in 2014 against Remington Arms, which made the weapon used in the mass shooting claiming the gun-maker sought to sell the military-grade weapon to the mentally ill. [N.S.: My emphasis.]
“Remington offered the families a $33 million settlement July 2021, about $3.7 million per family, but the exact terms of the Tuesday settlement have not yet been announced.
“Remington declared bankruptcy for the second time in 2020 and has maintained that gunman Adam Lanza was solely responsible for the horrific tragedy. The company was apparently drowning in debt from legal fees….”
Adam Lanza’s mother, Nancy, showed him complete devotion, but showed terrible judgment, in letting her son use shooting as a form of therapy. “American sniper,” Chris Kyle, put himself in the same position. They both paid the same price. Folks, you don’t hand a gun to a psycho.
As bad as Sandy Hook was, it had disastrous aftermaths. One was the frivolous lawsuit that Remington just settled, and which other opportunists will certainly seek to repeat against other gun manufacturers, until the right to keep and bear arms has been eliminated through the backdoor, and only criminals and state actors have firearms. Another was when, a few days after Lanza’s atrocity, Connecticut’s state chief medical examiner, H. Wayne Carver II, gave a speech, in which he turned the truth upside down, asserting that Lanza had committed all of his murders with a Bushmaster .223 rifle, when the police had previously informed the public that Lanza had left the rifle in his car’s trunk, and killed everyone in the school using a semi-automatic pistol.
The John Doe who called himself “Barack Hussein Obama” wanted to ban Bushmasters, and so somebody made a call (possibly “Obama” himself) to Carver, and Carver told the “assault rifle” lie.

That's what the NYP says, not what's in the complaint.

In the 'Introduction', points 9 - 12 give the reasons/basis for the lawsuit: basically, the manufacturer was aware the enormous firepower of the weapon enabled it to 'inflict unparalleled carnage', making it unsuitable for the civilian market, yet ignored these 'unreasonable risks' and continued to sell it anyway.
You ought to read/skim thru the complaint -- I find it childishly written and 100% political -- it seems baseless to me, especially considering liability protection already granted to gun makers (link) -- in this light, Remington's decision to settle rather than go to trial is a bit curious -- ?
The suit, which seems to me should have been dismissed, is perhaps another example of the political corruption of the justice system -- but then I'm not a lawyer.
I think you're old enough to know better than to believe everything you read in the NYP -- or anywhere else, for that matter.

Yeah, they did have trouble keeping the story straight, didn't they? -- that's also a bit curious, I would say.
heyjackass.com -- In Chicago alone, already this year 70 people have been shot to death -- that's almost 3x as many deaths as at Sandy Hook (26).
Of course an AR-15 is neither an automatic weapon nor is it a assault weapon or a military weapon. It is semi-automatic and doesn't have the select fire for fully automatic firing that a military weapon has. A semi-automatic weapon fires only one bullet each time you pull the trigger--just like an old fashioned revolver or "six gun."
