MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — A 28-year-old (black)man is accused of preying on a 68-year-old woman living in a senior living apartment complex in Muskegon.
The alleged sexual assault happened nearly a year ago, but prosecutors tell 24 Hour News 8 that they now have a suspect in Custody.
Police say this incident is the rarest kind of sexual assault – rape committed by a complete stranger.
“These are the folks we should fear the most, those that are actually out looking for a victim, in particular in this instance, a very vulnerable victim,” said Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson.
The alleged assault happened at the Hickory Village Apartments, a senior living facility where crime is almost unheard of, situated along Quarterline Road near Apple Avenue.
Muskegon Police say on Sept. 20, 2017, the woman awoke around 4 a.m. and was on her porch when she was approached by a man she had never seen before.
After talking briefly, the man grabbed her around the neck and told her not to make a sound or he would harm her, according to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office.
He then forced her into her apartment where he raped her and then stole her cell phone, police say.
National statistics show only about 28 percent of sexual assaults are committed by strangers, most sexual assaults are committed by family members, husbands or boyfriends.
In addition to being rare, assaults by strangers are more difficult to solve because there is no connection and the perpetrator can simply disappear — which explains why it took so long to make an arrest.
In this case, it was a DNA match through the FBI’s database that helped solve this crime.
“It’s a rare instance, but this does I think always help us remember that we can’t get too comfortable sometimes, we always have to be aware of what’s happening around us,” Hilson said. “When we can actually at least put a case in a position where we can charge an individual that’s accused of that, that always sends a very positive message that we are there to protect against these random acts of violence.”
Police arrested 28-year-old Dandre Smart, who has been arraigned on a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and faces a maximum of life in prison, if convicted.
Smart has a series or run-ins with police in Muskegon and elsewhere including a conviction for domestic violence in 2012 and receiving and concealing stolen goods in 2016 – both misdemeanors.
When he was arrested, police say he resisted police and attempted to flee leading to an additional charge.

I shop regularly at the store this poor lady worked at, it's not far from where I live. I remember her, seemed like a nice woman. I was in the store just yesterday and everybody is devastated over it. First time for a long time I've read of a white perp committing a crime like this, but I never denied white guys don't commit crimes of this nature, just not as much as blacks do.
BLACKS TRYING ANOTHER SCAM IN GR?
(WOODTV) An investigation is under way after an allegation that a Kent Hills Elementary School (white)teacher choked a (black)student, led to a short lockdown Monday morning(GRA:The lockdown wasn't because of the supposed incident though--it was because a herd of black mama's stormed the school in a frenzy).
The district says Kent Hills was put on lockdown for 15 minutes because (black)parents came into the school today, cursing and yelling.
The boy, 8-year-old Kaverrion McBride, told his mother of the accusations Saturday night.
"He grabbed me by the back of my neck, choked me and he was laughing. And then he made me upset," Kaverrion said.
His mother, Passionelle McBride, then contacted the school, but she says nothing was done. But when 24 Hour News 8 reached out to the district, a spokesperson said an investigation began Sunday.
The teacher, Robert Spaeth, is now on paid leave until the investigation is complete.
Spaeth was accused of something similar with another student last year.(GRA:Therefore media and black mamoos say he's guilty on this report).GRPS investigated and determined that there was not enough evidence to amount to assault. However, the investigation did find that Spaeth acted unprofessional and "disciplinary action" was taken.
GRPS spokesperson John Helmholdt released the following statement Monday:
“On Sunday morning, the district was contacted with allegations about a teacher-student assault at Kent Hills Elementary.
Public safety was immediately contacted and we started an investigation into the allegation. The teacher in question has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Unfortunately, we had an incident this morning where several parents entered the school using threatening and inappropriate language toward staff and public safety officers.
As a precautionary measure to ensure students and staff were safe and not further exposed to the trauma of threatening and inappropriate language, the school was placed in a short, shelter-in-place. Public safety officers will remain on site for the rest of the day.
GRA:The black boy was interviewed on WOOD tonight and looked far from upset--in fact he smiled most of the time he was asked questions. Very reminiscent of the phony story concerning a white man,accused of urinating on black kids, a few weeks ago.
The big mouth black wimmen were screaming about "JUSTICE"(what's new?)and,"what will it take for the school to do something about the (white)teacher?A death?"
Then they show the kid and he looks like he just stole a cookie.
The media has gone for it again,assuming--as with the last false accusation--the white man is guilty.

Executed and with all due speed. I don't care what race you are. You do this sorta crime, execution is the only just punishment. Make it so and quick.
