It used to be the disease was confined to several dozens of persons at the most. And you died so quick and were incapacitated to such a degree there was no chance of you moving about and infecting others. NOT NOW.
for some reason the disease has perhaps mutated. As with AIDS the greater number of hosts means the ability of the disease to mutate to a worse form is that much more.
