The Brittney Watts Murder Case: Nkosi Thandiwe is Playing New Variations on the Crazy Card

By David in TN

Atlanta murder victim Brittney Watts

Shooting victim Lauren Garcia as an undergraduate at the University of Georgia's Grady College, from which she had just graduated. She is now a paraplegic.

“Alleged” midtown Atlanta shooter, Nkosi Thandiwe, pleaded not guilty two weeks ago to all charges of an 11-count indictment.

Thandiwe’s new defense attorney, John A. Garland

Thandiwe is charged with fatally shooting Brittney Watts on July 15 and wounding two other women as he fled in Watts' car. One of the women, Lauren Garcia, is paralyzed below her waist. The other, Tiffany Ferenczy, returned to work the following week.

It appears the defense will be “insanity” or diminished capacity. In other words, the “crazy card.”

N.S. In a previous hand, Thandiwe’s playing of the crazy card got the death penalty taken off the table. This is exactly the sort of crime the modern death penalty was meant for. I say, “the modern death penalty,” because it used to be, if you murdered someone, you paid for it with your life. There were no exceptions for second-degree murder, or someone just being along for the ride, or not being the actual shooter (it was, and according to the law books, still is legally considered, “acting in concert,” “criminal responsibility,” etc.). Murder was murder.
