NAACP again threatens Grand Rapids with a Ferguson event after 11 year old black girl handcuffed during criminal investigation. This is only the most recent version story.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An 11-year-old girl who once said she wanted to be a police officer has now changed her attitude towards the job, after being handcuffed by Grand Rapids officers searching for someone else.

“No!” said Honestie Hodges when asked if she still wants to wear a badge someday.

“Yeah, she’s really stuck in her ways right now,” said her mother, Whitney Hodges. “She doesn’t want anything to do with it. Maybe after counseling, she’ll reconsider it.”

The reason was captured on police body cameras on Dec. 6.

Honestie, who is black, was at her home when police went looking for a suspect in an attempted homicide, who happened to be a 40-year-old white woman.

As Honestie left her house on Turner Avenue NW,(GRA:My side of town, couple miles away) Grand Rapids officers with guns drawn, handcuffed her and placed her in the back of a patrol car while they sorted out the situation.

Honestie was eventually released.

“Today, the Greater Grand Rapids NAACP Branch and its Youth Council are demanding the Grand Rapids Police Department act on their commitment to know better… and to do better,” said Cle Jackson, president of the Grand Rapids branch of the NAACP.

NAACP leaders Tuesday called on police to release more of the bodycam video and the city to provide counseling for Honestie and her family.

“And we recommend you ask for the immediate development and implementation of policies and procedures focused on officer discretion when detaining or arresting juveniles,” Jackson added.

The group also wants to sit down with the unions representing officers of the Grand Rapids Police Department.

NAACP leaders also took GRPD officers to task, specifically the Grand Rapids Police Officers Association, who’ve expressed their frustration on social media over GRPD Chief David Rahinsky’s reaction to the video.

Early on, the chief said the video nauseated him, later clarifying his statement to say the officers were following procedure.

“Then the issue or the challenge doesn’t necessarily lie with the individual officer. It lies with the system,” Rahinsky told city commissioners during their meeting Tuesday.

Officers will say they were following procedure that night designed to protect both police and the public. But where do you draw the line? The answer may come with a ruling in the civil rights complaint Honestie’s family is now considering filing.

“She was not allowed to move or to leave. That’s against her freedom of liberty. The Fourth Amendment is very clear on that,” said Jackson.

On Tuesday, 24 Hour News 8 reached out to union members for reaction to the incident, but did not hear back.

The NAACP called on the community to come to Tuesday night’s city commission meeting.
GRA:What this version leaves out of the televised report I watched, was the second threat by local NAACP blacks to see GR "become a Ferguson.Something like this arrest of an 11 year old could do it."
I'll try to find an exact quote.
This story has been played up by WOODTV--with repeated showings of the "incriminating" video.WOOD is about as anti-cop as Lesta Holt.
