In Germany during the Weimer Republic and Nazi dictatorship, you saw proposals to butcher the German language all the time.
My girlfriend was doing her master’s in pure math and theoretical physics. While researching her thesis on “Einstein’s General and Special Theories of Relativity,” she came across a Nazi-style “Germanization proposal” (Verdeutschungsvorshlag or Eindeutschungsvorschlag) from a 1923 German physics journal. The writer wanted “Relativitätstheorie” replaced with “Standpunktlehre” (standpoint theory).
