At the WEJB/NSU Theater, See Randolph Scott and Ann Sheridan in the Western Mystery, The Fighting Westerner (1935)

“Randolph Scott starred in a series of B+ westerns based on the stories of popular author Zane Grey in the early 1930s. The Fighting Westerner (1935) was based on Grey’s novel Golden Dreams and expertly mixes two genres, mystery whodunnit and westerns. Of course, it’s a Western, but it’s also a fast-paced mystery with a masked and caped villain who uses a hydraulic press to well crush his opponents. For his leading lady, young Randy gets a future star and ‘Oomph Girl,’ in beautiful Ann Sheridan. It’s nice to see these two paired together in this early outing, originally released as Rocky Mountain Mystery. The Director of Photography, Archie Stout, also learned his craft well. He, too, soon graduated to A productions, including winning Oscars for two classics, Fort Apache and The Quiet Man.”
