The Big C takes Suzanne Somers at 76/77, after 23-year-long struggle

Somers over the years. ABC notoriously fired her for asking for a raise while starring on the network's #1 show, Three's Company, during the 1970s. It also fired co-star Joyce DeWitt for the same reason. Third star John Ritter refrained from asking for a raise, and kept his job, but as One's Company, the show tanked.

By N.S.

I counted 860 tv and movie credits for Somers in an over 50-year-long career.

“Suzanne Somers dead at 76 following cancer battle”

“The Three’s Company star died just one day before her 77th birthday. She passed away in her sleep beside her husband, Alan Hamel.”

Got fired when she demanded to be paid the same as John Ritter. She had to be delusional to think she was anywhere in his league comedically, she was just window dressing, he was the talent. Three's Company was a dumb show, but Ritter was hilarious, his antics made a dumb sitcom genuinely funny. When Somers left, show didn't miss a beat. If Ritter had left it would have been dead in the water.

Always liked Ritter, like he showed in Three's Company, he had a way of taking average material and making it funnier than it deserved to be. Funny thing is, much of his physical comedy was based on Jerry Lewis, someone he often cited as an influence. I never thought Jerry Lewis was funny at all in his movies, his style of physical comedy never made me laugh but for some reason I found John Ritter doing Jerry Lewis schtick to be hilarious. I have no idea why that is.

Three's Company was a dumb show but Ritter's talent elevated it to a pretty funny show. When Somers left, show didn't miss a beat. If Ritter had left it would have been dead in the water.

Always liked Ritter, like he showed in Three's Company he had a way of taking average material and making it funnier than it had a right to be. Funny thing is, his style of physical humor is very similar to Jerry Lewis, someone he has cited as an influence but I don't find Jerry Lewis to be funny at all. For some reason I find John Ritter doing Jerry Lewis schtick to be hilarious but have no idea why that is.

You beat me to it.

Suzanne Somers, best known for her roles on Three's Company and Step by Step, has died.

Somers died on Sunday morning, PEOPLE confirms. She would have been 77 on Monday.

“Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” Somers’ longtime publicist R. Couri Hay wrote in a statement shared on behalf of the actress’ family.

“Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family,” the statement continued. “Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”

GRA:She had "something",enough to entice me to buy her famous "Playboy" issue back when. Was she sexy? Not like Ann Margaret or Sophia Loren, but for the 70s,I guess so.
