"N.S.: I don't get this business of sending intimate pix of oneself to other people."
What could be the reason for that?

The reason seems obvious--the fake girl made him excited and he wanted to please her. The fact that he paid off the Nigerian and then killed himself reveals that he was a weak person with low intelligence. So what if nude pictures of him were spread around--if anyone brought it up he could laugh it off. Poor dumb kid.

You've obviously forgotten what it's like to be a 17-year-old boy.
Unfortunately I have NOT forgotten what it was like to be 17. I was bullied, called names, and had a miserable time. The good part is that I learned to ignore peer pressure and expected behavior. I did not attend school events, never bought a class ring or a yearbook. I never smoked, drank, or used illegal drugs--even though everyone around me did. When the rest of the class was going through worthless graduation exercises, I was traveling alone by bicycle in Europe. I skipped my two college graduation ceremonies too. Although I have the money to buy a new Mercedes or Lexus, I drive a 24-year-old Toyota because I have no interest in trying to impress the public. I think too many people are using social media, yapping or texting on cell phones, taking selfies, etc.--they are way too concerned with impressing other people instead of living their own lives. I have a loving wife and an even more affectionate dog--these are the creatures I care about. My wife is the same way. When she was a student in Europe people would complain that she didn't care what other people thought about her. And now in American a woman told her she should buy a new car--she replied, "What for?" Fortunately, she too is not interested in "keeping up with the Joneses."
