(FOX17NEWS) GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found dead in a recent house fire.
The fire broke out on the 2100 block of Oakwood NE Avenue Sunday morning, according to GRPD.
We’re told an autopsy on the victim, identified as Todd Ryan Cappendyk, 41, has revealed that the man’s death was the result of homicide.
GRA: Though not stated here, Cappendyk was paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair.
This is the second White person killed this year in Grand Rapids— both by arson. A fire in March was ruled a homicide—that resulted in the death of a 49-year-old White woman. A domestic dispute is suspected as the reason for the arson in that case, though the White husband was burned severely also. I never read about any follow-through of that suspicion by police—or charges.
To me, the most likely motive on Oakwood is robbery of an incapacitated White man, followed by his murder, and then a fire set.
It’s common knowledge that blacks like to murder their victims-and THEN burn their house down—thinking it will confuse investigators (or just out of plain racist hate.)
Awaiting the autopsy on specific cause of death. The neighborhood is not horrible, though possibly 10% black. Will keep you posted for any interesting details, if they come out.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a homicide suspect is in custody after a hours-long standoff in southeast Grand Rapids Wednesday morning.
The Grand Rapids Police Department said the suspect, a 31-year-old man, was in custody in connection to the shooting death of a woman just before 2 a.m. in the area of Ottillia Street SE and Nelson Avenue SE, north of Alger Street SE.

The relationship between the suspect and victim is unknown at this time.
Sgt. John Wittkowski said the suspect drove away from the scene of the homicide to his elderly parent’s home on Sigsbee Street.
Police then surrounded a house near the intersection of Sigsbee Street SE and Benjamin Avenue SE.

SWAT teams, heavily armed officers and the departments crisis negotiation team communicated with the suspect for hours to ensure a peaceful resolution to this standoff.

Wittkowski said the suspect the investigation is ongoing but the suspect has been brought in for questioning.
Witnesses of the homicide are cooperating with investigators, according to Wittkowski.
No further details surrounding the shooting, including the woman’s name, have been released.
Wednesday’s morning’s homicide brings the city’s total so far this year to 31, which is more than 2018 and 2019 combined.

An aggravated offense to say the least. Normally a death penalty case but MI does not have the death penalty. They are so civilized in MI. Not!
