ATR: Chuck's late father ran the nuclear propulsion program for NASA in the 1970s.

His parents divorced many years ago.

Chuck lived with his mother in Lake Highlands.

Chuck's father lived in Maryland, and worked for NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Chuck used to spend the summers in Maryland.

He told me the following about one summer he spent with his father.

They had just finished dinner when Chuck cornered his dad in the kitchen.

Chuck, a sci-fi buff, asked his father if NASA had technology as good as Star Wars or Star Trek.

"Better," said his father.
