IRVING – Attorneys for the family of Ahmed Mohamed, the Irving high school student who made international headlines after being arrested earlier this year for bringing a homemade clock to school, have sent letters to both the city of Irving and the Irving School District demanding apologies and $15 million in damages.

"The numbers are huge, and we admit that," said attorney Kelly Hollingsworth from his offices near Lubbock. "But the damages caused against this young man and his family are incalculable.

Hollingsworth is representing Ahmed and his family, who have since relocated out of the country to Qatar.

In the letters, the attorney claims that after a teacher became suspicious about Ahmed's clock, "Ahmed was subjected to on-campus detention and 7-on-1 interrogation [that] went on for approximately one hour and 25 minutes [...] Ahmed constantly was pressured to sign a written statement admitting that he intended to bring a 'hoax bomb' to school."

Both letters claim that Mohamed's civil rights were violated, and he and his family have suffered physical and mental anguish because of the ordeal.

Hollingsworth says the "wrongful interrogation," the act of denying a young boy the right to talk with his parents, and questioning Ahmed without first reading him his Miranda rights should be an affront to all Americans.

"When that was done, it was done to all of us," the attorney said. "Every single one of us have [sic] that right."

The letters claim Ahmed was singled out "because of his race, national origin, and religion."

"Ahmed never threatened anyone, never caused harm to anyone, and never intended to," read the letter to the city. "The only one who was hurt that day was Ahmed, and the damages he suffered were not because of oversight or incompetence. The school and city officials involved knew what they needed to do to protect Ahmed's rights. They just decided not to do it."

The letters demand $10 million be paid to the family by the city of Irving, and $5 million from the school district.

Hollingsworth says the situation was all made worse when city and school officials fanned the flames in a divided community after the case drew national media attention."You can find other cases where there is a wrongful arrest or detention and when there are mistakes made by school officials," he said. "What you can't find is the second phase, which is when they went out into the media and had an orchestrated campaign against a 14-year-old boy."

[That is the diametrical opposite of the truth! It is the Mohamed family that orchestrated a media campaign.]

The family also wants written apologies from Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne, "acknowledging that she has never been presented with any evidence that Ahmed was a 'pawn' in any 'civilization jihad' or that the events here were planned by Ahmed's family or friends as part of an 'influence operation.'"

They also want apologies from the school district, as well as Police Chief Larry Boyd, saying Mohamed "never intended to threaten anyone, and that his detention, interrogation, and arrest were wrongful and were made at a point in time when there was no reasonable suspicion to believe that Ahmed had committed a crime or was about to commit any crime."

[But of course, he’d committed a crime! Committing a bomb hoax is a crime in Texas. The problem is that Irving authorities didn’t press charges. If they had, the Mohameds’ plan would have collapsed.]

Hollingsworth says the boy's name has been inextricably associated with terrorism, and that it has affected the whole family. The attorney claims the family wants to return to Texas, but they worry for their safety because of all the threats they've received.

[Well, they are terrorists! As for the family receiving threats, that claim has all the credibility of this lawsuit. Actually, I wish IO could believe their little religious fairy tale, because it would mean that this country has more gumption left than I’ve seen in years. However, if this were the sort of America that would threaten the lives of these terrorist grifters, they probably wouldn’t have dared to pull the stunt, in the first place.]

On day one of his public involvement in the case, Hollingsworth said he and his law firm are getting a taste of some of that backlash.

"Right now, every member of my staff and every lawyer in this law firm has been called expletives, and gotten emails with expletives, and been called every name in the book," he said.

[And I’ll bet that they deserved to hear every one of those expletives.]

The family's attorney ends the letters by saying civil action will be filed if the demands are not met within 60 days.

[Ha!]

Both the city and the school district acknowledged that they had received the letters Monday, but both declined any comment until their attorneys had time to review the demand letter.

Did any other Muslims bring a similarly stupid idea to school? No.Did ANYONE bring a clock that looked like a bomb to school?No...THEY were smart enough to know not do it.But then again, maybe these con artists are smarter than all of us with a big payday possible.DON T SETTLE FORT WORTH SCHOOL DISTRICT!!!
It was this kind of thinking (supposed profiling)that caused the neighbors in San Bernadino to say..."Let s not call the cops on these Muslim neighbors who are playing in their garage all night:

I d say..the people who lost loved ones in San Bernadino should sue Ahmed Mohamed for contributing to the attitude that Muslims were being unfairly picked on and shouldn t be reported.Result:14 dead and 50+ injured.

His victims? What victims? You fucking reactionary idiots just dive on any chance to vilify muslims. Never mind all the horrible stuff done in the name of Christianity over the centuries, but of course that is YOUR national religion so you won't hear of it I'll bet!

The Clock Boy should be sued for warfare against the American people, deported and have his passport revoked.

Why don t you stay in your own area and practice all the Muslim religion you want? And why don t you, instead of running away, fight for your country--as everyone throughout history has done.If you don t like your governments in the Mideast,a million refugees fighting their corrupt leaders would win out easily. Then you wouldn t need to complain about the US.

Anonymous of December 13,

Just a little history, not much. The crusades were a response to Muslim attacks being made on Christian pilgrims in the Holy Land. The wars fought by Christians against Muslims in Europe through the centuries were fought in defense against Muslim invasions. Teddy Roosevelt observed that Christianity in Asia and Africa was wiped out because it was not strong enough stand against Islam.

Therefore, as a Christian, I'm not all embarrassed by what my ancestors did to defend their faith and land. What's your religion, by the way?

I think Clock Boy and his parents are grifters who see how weakened we are by political correctness and want to soak us.
