The Satmar Chassidic village of Kiryas Joel is a town of crime. It’s wealthy, and yet the majority of the inhabitants are on some welfare program or another. Thus, the Satmarers have not only swindled the neighboring town of Bloomingburg out of $1 billion in land, but have for years defrauded a multitude of welfare programs. Whole divisions of state and federal prosecutors should firing out subpoenas machine gun-style, followed by machine gun-style indictments. Instead, it’s all quiet on the Western New York front, form a prosecutorial point of view. But there are guns a-blazin’—from the crooks!
