Sounds like the banks just want to oversee credit cards for the masses--and you don't need tellers for that.

BoA very liberal with passing out credit cards. To illegals and such. Dead beat debts now the chickens coming home to roost.
Try to make a withdrawal from my Bank of America checking account today. It said transaction cannot be completed. I do not know what that is all about, but they seem to have gotten poor service.
