Abbott is a piker compared to the feds -- he sends a couple of puny buses, the feds send 'em by the plane load.
They are probably (nominally) asylum seekers, and some organization(s) in the area (aka 'charities') are profiting from this human trafficking -- acting as government contractors, these organizations take care of the basic needs of the asylum seekers: housing, food, medical care, etc.
An enterprising reporter could look into this -- the info, e.g. the agencies involved, ought to be available, or could be learned via a FOIA request -- does anyone know an enterprising reporter?
