One of my co-workers is a native of New Mexico. He is white. He lived in Albuquerque for a while.
A friend of his was murdered years ago by Mexican gang-bangers. His friend caught the Mexicans breaking into his car one night. He surprised them, and they murdered him.
Don't kid yourself.
New Mexico is both violent and poor because of its racial make-up. You need to ignore anomalies like Santa Fe and Taos.
