Chattanooga’s New 12 Now reports the shooting suspect who allegedly pulled a gun at the U.S. Capitol visiting center on Monday has been identified as Larry Dawson of Antioch, Tennessee.
News 12 Now tweeted tweeted a photo of the suspect:
News 12 Now reports “Dawson had an active bench warrant for assault of a police officer and unlawful conduct on capitol grounds at the time of the shooting.”
ABC News reports that Dawson allegedly “drew what appeared to be a gun” and was subsequently shot by Capitol Police. He was transported to a local hospital for surgery without any word on his condition.
ABC News also reported that Dawson “interrupted a House session in October 2015.” According to The Daily Beast, that interruption consisted of Dawson shouting “I’m a prophet of God” from the balcony of the House of Representatives. Thereafter, he “allegedly ran from cops and resisted arrest.”
The Washington Post reports that Dawson failed to appear in court in November, instead sending a letter to the court which said, “I have been called chosen and sent unto you this day. I am not under the law!. . .Therefore I will not comply with the court order, nor will I surrender myself to your office.”
