In The War, we fought against the dictators Tojo, Hitler, and Mussolini.

Publicly, everyone said we were fighting “tyranny” on behalf of “freedom,” but I’m sure a solid portion of the citizenry privately thought and/or complained to each other in private about Franklin Delano Roosevelt, “We’re fighting dictators, on behalf of a dictator” or, more stoically, “He’s a dictator, but he’s our dictator.”
