The Most Sublime Image in the History of Song?

By Nicholas Stix

From “Angels We Have Heard on High”

Angels we have heard on high,
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply,
Echoing their joyous strains.

The angels and the mountains serenading each other. Imagine that.

Google definition of “Sublime”; adjective: “of such excellence, grandeur, or beauty as to inspire great admiration or awe.”

Greetings NS and Happy New Year! You certainly have been busy with so many thought provoking, interesting articles. I'm glad you take breaks occasionally from the demons and mention something as lofty as angels. May St Michael protect all people of good will. St Michael is the patron saint of police officers. I wonder where he is lately and what he thinks of this mess.
