Auld Lang Syne: It’s a Wonderful Life
Thanks to repad.
Imagine a public school teacher telling her pupils that “every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings”? And that wasn’t just Hollywood. Unless she were speaking about Islamic or Wiccan angels, she’d be out on ear by the end of the day!
Oddity: In the movie, the characters are singing “Auld Lang Syne” on Christmas Eve.
Auld Lang Syne (Brief, modern version)
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should old acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet
And days of auld lang syne.
Auld Lang Syne (Original version)
By Robert Burns (1759-1796)
Chorus
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!
I
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to min'?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?
II
And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!
III
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary foot
Sin' auld lang syne.
IV
We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae mornin sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne.
V
And here's a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o' thine,
And we'll take a right quid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne!
Chorus
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne!
