"On May the 10th the great Max Steiner would have had his 129th birthday and I immediately thought of a special treat. So here it is, Max Steiner's first Academy Award win, The Informer, directed by John Ford.
"Back in the day it was common that the head of the music department recive the prize instead of the composer. Luckily in this case, Steiner was his own boss as head of the RKO music department and could recive the prize on his own.
"This strange rule changed after the case of acclaimed European composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold, whose statue for Anthony Adverse was given to the head of the Warner Bros. music department instead of him, which started a general discontent, just one year after Steiner's Informer."
