Should ps teachers be fired for celebrating Kirk's murder online? (ZH) Florida’s Department of Education announced on Sept. 11 that it will look into public school teachers who, on social media, celebrated or justified the assassination of Turning Point USA CEO and founder Charlie Kirk.

commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas sent a letter to school district superintendents telling them that he would be investigating after it was brought to his attention that some educators had posted “despicable comments on social media regarding the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk.”

“These few are not a reflection of the great, high-quality teachers who make up the vast majority of Florida’s educators,” he wrote.

“Nevertheless, I will be conducting an investigation of every educator who engages in this vile, sanctionable behavior.”

Florida’s Department of Education told The Epoch Times in an email that the commissioner was prepared to use all of his power to hold educators responsible if the investigation proves they should not be in a classroom based on their behavior.

That power includes revoking their educator certificate.

“Although educators have First Amendment rights, these rights do not extend without limit into their professional duties,” Kamoutsas said.

“An educator’s personal views that are made public may undermine the trust of the students and families that they serve.”

The commissioner cited Rule 6A-10.081 of the Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.), titled “Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida,” which holds the state’s certified educators to a set of ethical guidelines.

Kamoutsas said that a teacher could violate that rule if his or her conduct “causes a student or his or her family to feel unwelcome or unwilling to participate in the learning environment.”

He also cited sections of two Florida statutes that authorized the commissioner to discipline and sanction the certificate of an educator who “upon investigation, has been found guilty of personal conduct that seriously reduces that person’s effectiveness as an employee of the district school board.”

“Teachers are held to a higher standard as public servants and must ensure their conduct does not undermine the trust of the students and families they serve,” the commissioner said on X.

GRA: Before I read the Florida Dept.of Education's criteria, I would opine that free speech--which does not sit well with segments of people--should NOT be reason for termination. But I suppose, kids reading what their teachers are saying, can be influenced easily into embarking into political terrorism. On the other hand, the courses teachers have ALREADY been teaching for years--favoring socialist, anti-White, homo viewpoints--should have been enough to show just cause for firing long ago.

What about them? THOSE thousands of teachers who unrepentantly teach "how rotten America is."

If someone celebrated the murder of a left winger by someone deemed to be a "right wing extremist", they'd want them fired, if not arrested and incarcerated.

Yeah! No such thing as cancel culture. What's to be afraid of? Let's all use our real names as we join "the national conversation" about race and culture and politics. Surely nobody would be doxxed, terminated, unpersoned, vandalized, debanked, spit upon, robbed, hit 'n' runned, beaten, knifed, macheted, shot at close range, shot at 200 yards, or suffer any consequences for the views we've expressed. Of course not.

Look at the acclaim Mr. Stix has received in the public square, for example. The appreciative NYT always welcomes his op-ed submissions even though the Murdochs are constantly seeking his counsel, so much that he often has to let them go to voice mail.

His photos from that awesome Mar-a-Lago Christmas party? Awesome. Plus the invitations to the Sunday morning roundtable shows, being the first person to whom they offered the empty chair across from Roger Ebert, his frequent guest appearances on the late-night talkers, getting to present at the Oscars. And don't forget Celebrity Jeopardy and hosting Saturday Night Live.

Oh yeah! That's the life I want! If the Governor only knew that I lived in this state, he'd have appointed me to the Regents (and we would have abolished tenure years ago). I'd be busy all winter training an army of subordinates to do K-12 workshops on budgets, curriculum, and discipline done the right way, at least until we funneled 100% of the money to the student to use in the free market of educational choices. Elon Musk would have called me begging me to reactivate my twOOter account.

Instead I'm churning out this drivel anonymously from a down-market rental just outside the Chocolate City limits. Free of charge, but that's okay, because the investments are doing very well, thank you.
