Aaron Rodgers plays good enough to win--this week; steelers edge jets in season opener
"(espn) east Rutherford, n.j. -- though he spent the week downplaying the significance of opening the regular season at metlife stadium against the new york jets, quarterback Aaron Rodgers acknowledged sunday the added satisfaction of starting out his Pittsburgh steelers tenure with a 34-32 win over the team that let him go.
"'there were probably people in the organization that didn't think I could play anymore,' Rodgers, 41, said after the game. 'so, it was nice to remind those people that I still can.
"that reminder came in the form of four passing touchdowns and 244 yards as he completed 22 of 30 attempts, including 4 of 5 for 62 yards and a touchdown pass to wide receiver Ben Skowronek on the steelers' first drive.
"earlier this year, Rodgers criticized the jets organization, and specifically new head coach Aaron Glenn, for how they handled his dismissal. on the Pat McAfee show in april, Rodgers said Glenn told him the team was going in a different direction at quarterback '20 seconds in' to their in-person meeting in new jersey, which Rodgers flew cross-country for on his 'own dime.' asked specifically after sunday's win if there was added significance to beating Glenn, Rodgers demurred.
"'I was happy to beat everybody associated with the Jets,' he said.
GRA: Too old--not a putdown, either. When polymarket comes to the U.S., I'll see if they have bets on how long Rodgers lasts.
But I'm already surprised.

Is Namath in next week? black quarterbacks--in most cases--play just good enough to lose. Caleb Williams, second year qb for the Bears, was outplayed by a White rookie,by the name of JJ McCarthy for the Vikings. McCarthy had a first half that was forgettable, but in the second half,he unleashed an arm and tactical skill that led the Vikings to a win over the Bears. Williams made stupid mistakes--like last year. Not encouraging.

I saw Rodgers' presser after the game and he doesn't seem like a happy camper. I guess he hates the press(deserved) and it shows. Jets made a bad move thinking a 40 year old could be the answer. Fields isn't either. I saw that from watching/listening to Bears games. Either the blackies come out like Jayden Daniels did for Washington last year and shows he can handle every situation immediately,or I don't think they ever will.
Williams for Chicago hasn't improved at all from last year to this year. Fields was his predecessor. I was hoping the Bears would take McCarthy--but they took Caleb Williams. Another 3-5 years wasted.

Never a good idea to sign a near 40 yr. old QB onto a mediocre or bad team, it only works when you've got a stacked team, like Tampa Bay with Brady. Pittsburgh is decent at least but I'm not certain Rogers is going to be enough to take the team to a SB. Hope he can do it but while he can still make any kind of throw you want, the legs are gone and he looks like he's one hard hit away from retirement.
Good point,Jerry, about a rotten team signing a 40 year old qb. The Jets were that--and probably still are.
