R.C.: I have read reports that say the Beirut blast was equivalent to a bomb packing one-fifth the power of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Yet in Beirut the blast left part of a grain silo standing. The silo was on the docks where the blast occurred.
Yet a mere airplane, one packing far less kinetic energy, as well as stored energy in its fuel tanks, was able to bring down a 110-story building in New York City?

Really? After almost 20 years of innumerable studies by an army of the best engineers and metallurgists in the world, this 'controlled demolition' bullshit still gets traction?
The only reason to believe such garbage is some deep psychological block - an inability to accept that 5 Jihadist fucks per commercial plane travelling between 500-700 mph could bring down these buildings.
It's similar to the refusal to accept that an utter washout/failure in his 20's could kill the most powerful, admired, photogenic man in the world in 1963 in Dallas.
The key points summarized:
- The WTC design called for an open-floor plan where the normal complement of dozens of vertical beams would be eliminated.
- To accomplish this, almost total support for the structure needed to be shifted to the building exterior, via a complex - but lighter weight - floor-truss and anchor system.
- Recovered steel indicated extensive distension and bending (failure) - evidence of temps at or close to 2000 F at the most intense fire points.
- The sagging of key floors from the heat pulled the truss anchorages away from the exterior beams: once one floor failed, the entire collapse of each building - caused essentially by the release of the massive potential energy stored as a consequence of its construction 1300 feet into the sky - became unstoppable.
You didn't need any additional 'bombs' of any type - the sheer weight of the towers - now unsupported - caused both to pancake - as seen in any 'controlled demolition'.

PBS produced program NOVA also produced a special some years ago on 'why the towers fell' (or a similar title), which goes into extensive detail of this floor-truss design, the 'Achille's Heel' that doomed these towers.
Dog bites man. Nothing more than that.
That warehouse was filled with fireworks? That was a lot of fireworks stored in port facility. I am of the opinion that was a Hezbollah weapons depot.
WTC was designed to withstand a Boeing 707 impact. No one at the time was able to consider a much larger aircraft fully fueled and burning.
