One or More Cook County Jail Inmates Beat a Fellow Inmate to Death Early Saturday

A Cook County Jail detainee was fatally beaten overnight while in his cell, officials said. At approximately 1:53 a.m., Cook County correctional officers in Division IX found detainee Pedro Ruiz, 19, unresponsive in his cell with apparent head trauma,

N.S.: In English, we call a "jail detainee" an inmate.

How would jail guards know to check Ruiz' cell at 1:53 a.m.? Either they overheard him being murdered, or were tipped to it by an eye or earwitness, or (less likely) one of his killers.

Probably done in by rival gang members. Cook County Jail as you might expect a bad place. They used to have mass escapes all the time but not for sometime have I heard of any.
