TYLER (KYTX) - Joshua McGill was a young man who was looking forward to his future. [N.S.: This is weak English. All clichés are not created equal, and this is both clichéd and redundant. “Joshua McGill was a young man with a future,” is also clichéd, but at least it’s terse.]

The 21-year-old had just started a new position at his job [what job?; senior drug dealer?] before he was shot in the back in the parking lot at the Kensington Place apartments Monday night.

"He was really just a joy to be around, he had a great smile and a great personality," said Jocqulyn Young.

His older sister, Jocqulyn Young, is a popular radio host known as "Baby J" by many East Texas radio listeners.

She was in shock when she learned her younger brother had died.

"It's painful, it's tough, there's a mix of emotion with everyone who loved Joshua and knew Joshua. It's anger, it's hurt, it's confusion, at times it's a little bit of rage," explained Young.

Joshua's family nor Tyler police know who was responsible for the pulling the trigger.
Investigators do know the person used a shot gun.

"They're trying to sort out the details of exactly what did happen, so things are sketchy right now. We really don't want to put anything out there and unless we know for sure what did happen," said Officer Don Martin.

According to Tyler police reports, the Kensington Place apartment complex has [sic] long history of crime, from aggravated assault to burglary. [Don’t forget drug dealing in the parking lot.]

"There's cops in and out of here all the time," said Matthew Huckabee.

[White] Matthew Huckabee's sister tried to perform CPR on Joshua Monday night. He thinks the apartment management should do more to prevent this from happening again.

"More security, maybe a gated fence," said Huckabee. [Who’s going to pay for all that? And would the residents support hassling, running off, and banning the brothers, like Joshua McGill, all the time?]

As for Joshua's family, they just want answers as they prepare to lay him to rest.
"He had a lot of friends [and customers] and a lot of people love him, a lot of people are going to miss him, including myself and my family," added Young.

The previous version censored the drug angle altogether, and at least the following version didn’t call it a “drug deal gone wrong.” It looks like the deal was to rip off and kill McGill.

Thanks for the next story to reader-researcher RC, who remarked,

More Section 8 hooligans.

Nicholas,

This was my brother. I know you don't care, but her was loved. He wasn't perfect (and I doubt you are either) but he was loved. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but please keep in mind that people have feelings and jokes, sarcastic comments, or whatever you choose to publish online as it relates to a loss of life, is extremely hurtful. I don't think anyone tried to paint Josh as a Saint, but I'm sure you aren't one either.

God bless you.
