Jets 14-3 over the Patriots at Halftime!

By Nicholas Stix

I don’t how Gang Green managed to do it. Early on, New England was moving the ball at will, and only one guy on the Jets defense knew how to tackle. That was Shaun Ellis, who sacked Tom Brady twice. That gave the Jets defense time to regroup.

Brady threw twice to Deion Branch, but Darelle Revis leaped out and swatted the first pass away, and the second time Branch caught the ball, but Revis simply muscled it out of his arms. There’s a reason why quarterbacks don’t challenge Revis.

Jets QB Mark Sanchez’ throws have not been that accurate, but he’s been helped out by LaDainian Tomlinson and Braylon Edwards, who made great catches for touchdowns, and Santonio Holmes, who made a great catch on a short pass for a first down, in which the ball squirted loose as he was tumbling on the ground, but he managed to keep his arm under the ball.

The Jets have also benefited from some sloppy play by the usually smoothly executing New England. It’s the postseason. Tom Brady threw a pick early, and with barely over one minute left in the first half, the Pats tried a fake punt in their own territory form about the 40, but their back, Chung, who was to get the snap, took his eye off the ball for a split second, and fumbled it. That gave the Jets great field position.

On first down, LaDainian Tomlinson ran the ball to the 20, and a couple of plays later, Sanchez threw the ball to Braylon Edwards, who dragged two undersized Patriot Pro Bowlers with him into the end zone. Edwards is tall, but I’d never seen him show such bullish strength before. He looked like the second coming of Sterling Sharpe.

Tom Brady made the worst throw I can remember seeing him make in the first quarter and it was intercepted. Even though the Jets didn't score, it's been downhill for NE since.
