Recently acquired New York Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle is believed to have piloted the small propeller plane that crashed into an apartment bulding at East 72nd Street and York Avenue in Manhattan.
Lidle's passport was found in the street below.
New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner confirmed to Fox News that Lidle was in the plane with an instructor, who also perished. It was not clear who was at the controls, when the plane crashed. Lidle, 34, left behind a wife and 6-year-old son.
