    Hope the storeowner doesn't get in trouble for assault, guy wasn't out of the store, legally speaking he hadn't stolen anything yet. Was enjoyable to watch though.

    Those are Sikhs from India. Sikhs are noted as warriors and fighters. Using that large stick is in the fashion of some sort of martial arts fighting style. The bad guy is being struck in the shins for the pain it causes. He did not suffer any dangerous blows.
