Daylight Saving Time sheds light on lack of sleep's disproportionate impact in communities of color
Coverage of this "inequity" is, of course, by a black reporterette: https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/25/health/racial-inequities-sleep/index.html "Short" sleep is a problem. But then so is "long" sleep. Both can result from "structural racism."
Author is, of course, a member of the national association of black journalists.
Here's her source: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2790797
Here's the email address of the black woman PhD who's most quoted in the cnn article: chandra.jackson@nih.gov
Oh, and the study's conclusion is this gem (emphasis added):
in this cross-sectional study of nhis data from 2004 to 2018, there were significant differences in sleep duration by race and ethnicity, and the prevalence of unrecommended sleep duration was persistently higher among black individuals. the disparities were greatest for black women, black individuals who had middle or high income, and young and middle-aged black adults. given the importance of sleep to health, the prevalence of short and long sleep duration may be associated with health disparities.

ReplyDeleteMy experience is that the lazier people are the harder it is for them to adjust to shifting sleep schedules. Of course, daylight savings time you have 6 months to mentally prepare yourself to a an hour time shift so it's not like you're alternating 9-5 and graveyard shifts (as I've actually done in the past). Besides that, one of the daylight savings time shifts actually gives you an extra hour of sleep in the morning.
They have a lot of luck on games shows like "Wheel of Fortune","black Let's Make a Deal"and"The Price is Right"--but not on "Jeopardy" or ""Who Wants to be a Millionaire"?
ReplyDeleteI can't prove it,but Whites seem to get "zonked" many more times than blacks do--on LMAD.

Is there ANYTHING that does not cause problems for "pee-poes of color". Everything seems to bother them.
ReplyDeleteAnd media like cnn give these stories the attention it doesn't deserve. Most stories of crime are the result of blacks voluntarily NOT sleeping--and out on the streets-- committing felonies at all hours of the a.m.
DeletePut that in your cnn story and smoke it.

Creatures of the Night are easily disturbed by change to the clocks and the amount of daylight available.
