In honor of Baldwin being host of the show Match Game, the cop came up to him and said, “Mr. Baldwin, I’m here to ask you one question: Would you please hand over your (BLANK)?
Celebrity responses:
Bert Convy: Wife?
Brett Somers: Gun.
Charles Nelson Reilly: Career.
Joyce Bulifant: Phone—everyone knows that. (Match!)
Richard Dawson: The cop didn’t care about the gun—I said bullets.
Betty White: Take my wife—please. I said wife.
Thanks for playing Match Game 2021.

N.S.: I don’t get it. People with no comedic talent get paid tens of millions of dollars per year to be comics, while actual funny men, like GRA, are stuck out in the cold.
The Match Game ( NBC ) with a Gene Rayburn Tribute, "A Swingin' Safari" (Stereo)
By Stratman '78
This video collage that I made is from the game show, "The Match Game" that aired on NBC from December 31, 1962 to September 26, 1969.
The host was Gene Rayburn.
The theme song is called "A Swingin' Safari" by Bert Kaempfert.
The first half of the collage is from the Match Game. The second is a tribute to Gene Rayburn. Enjoy.
Supposedly, only 11 episodes of The Match Game are reported to survive, the pilot episode (which was recorded) and ten kinescope recordings; the show was originally broadcast live from New York, and most episodes were not recorded for posterity.
For most of its life, the original series of The Match Game was aired live from New York on NBC during the late afternoons, and was a solid if unspectacular hit for the network at the time.
I watched The Match Game on TV when I came home form school.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite game show of all time was the Match Game. Used to come home from school and turn it on, never failed to entertain. The reboot with Baldwin actually wasn't bad either but it was a little gaudy in a way that took away from the simple organic feel of the original. The idea of the show was that the game itself was secondary, it was just background that gave funny people room to be their spontaneous witty selves. Worked brilliantly, I still miss it.
Appreciate your comment N.S.I just try to contribute the best way I can and have some fun to boot.Merry Christmas to you and your family and everyone who's on here--either as contributor or reader. It's a great site to be part of.

I'd forgotten about the theme song--I never saw the original show--but I remember the music.Even game shows had great theme music back then.Quite a memory jolt with that one.
