Wayne Rogers Dead at 82; Played Trapper John on M*A*S*H*, which Never Recovered from His Departure; He Got the Last Laugh, as He became a Multimillionaire Businessman
Re-posted by Nicholas Stix
Wayne Rogers was, with McLean Stevenson, one of the two performers who made M*A*S*H* one of the funniest shows on TV for three years. Both left or were forced off the show after three years, and it never recovered, though millions of people still found its flat jokes funny—thanks to the laugh track prompts.
I enjoyed a short-lived show Rogers starred in, after M*A*S*H,* set in 1930s Los Angeles as a hard-boiled detective, City of Angels.
An anonymous entry at IMDB.com states:
“When he left M*A*S*H (1972) in 1975, he was sued for breach of contract, but the case was thrown out because he had no contract. Producers wanted him to sign a morality clause, in which he could be suspended or fired at any time, and he refused because he wanted the same privilege regarding the producers.”
Rogers segued into business, and was wildly successful as an investment advisor and businessman, while still acting.
Wayne Rogers, Trapper John on ‘M.A.S.H.,’ dies at 82

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wayne Rogers, whose Trapper John McIntyre alongside Alan Alda's Hawkeye Pierce brought mischief, martinis and meatball surgery to the masses in the 1970s every week on "M.A.S.H.," has died.
The actor was surrounded by family when he died Thursday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia at age 82, his publicist and longtime friend Rona Menashe told The Associated Press.
Rogers' army surgeon Trapper John was one of the most beloved characters — and half of one of the most beloved duos — in TV history, despite the actor's appearing in only the first three of the show's 11 seasons on CBS.
The two skilled doctors, Hawkeye and Trapper, blew off steam between surgeries pulling pranks, romancing nurses and tormenting their tent-mate Frank Burns, with a seemingly endless supply of booze and one-liners at the ready.
In one classic moment, Trapper reaches out as though he's checking for rain and says, "Hmm, feels like it's going to martini," as Hawkeye promptly passes him a drink.
And in another line that typified the show's ethos, Trapper answers a question with "How should I know? I dropped out of school to become a doctor."
McIntyre was on "M.A.S.H." from 1972 to 1975, becoming one of many original cast members to leave the wildly popular show that went on until 1983. He was initially considered for Alda's character, but he preferred Trapper's sunnier disposition to Hawkeye's darkly acerbic personality.
The characters were essentially equals when the show began, but it increasingly focused on Alda, which was a factor in Rogers' departure.
Two other actors played Trapper in other incarnations. Elliot Gould was same character in the "M.A.S.H." feature film that preceded the TV show, and Pernell Roberts played the title character in the 1980s spinoff drama "Trapper John, M.D."
An Alabama native and Princeton University graduate, Rogers had parts on many short-lived shows early in his career, specializing in westerns like "Law of the Plainsman" and "Stagecoach West." He had a bit part in the 1967 film "Cool Hand Luke" with Paul Newman.
In the years after "M.A.S.H." he returned to TV regularly, including a recurring role in the early 1990s on "Murder, She Wrote."
He moved beyond acting to see serious success later in life as a money manager and investor. In 1988 and 1990, he appeared as an expert witness before the House Judiciary Committee to speak in favor of maintaining the Glass-Steagall banking laws of the 1930s. In recent years he was a regular panelist on the Fox News stock investment show "Cashin' In."
Rogers is survived by his wife Amy, two children, Bill and Laura, and four grandchildren.
Welcome, One Billion “Refugees”! German Telecommunications Chief Demands an Unconditional Basic Income for Everyone in Germany!
Timotheus Höttges (translation): “An unconditional basic income can be the foundation, in order to lead a life of human dignity.”
By Nicholas Stix
ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen) Heute: “Telekom-Chef Timotheus Höttgens [sic] befürwortet ein bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen in Deutschland - finanziert mit Unternehmenssteuern. Uns interessiert Ihre Meinung: Wie stehen Sie dazu?”
Translation: German (Public) TV Channel 2: Telecom CEO Timotheus Höttges supports an unconditional basic income in Germany, financed via business taxes. We are interested in your opinion. What do you think of this idea?
Tim Höttges, as he is known in Germany, is clearly some sort of socialist or communist, though I couldn’t come up with any political history on him. The German Wikipedia discusses only his business career, and one instance of an ethical failing, which, when publicly revealed, he simply refused to respond to. (In contradiction to German law, which requires that every publicly traded corporation or non-profit organization [e.V.; eingetragener Verein] he wrote in a paper that an oversight board’s [“Aufsichtsrat”] job was to serve the Board of Directors.)
Höttges has claimed that a basic income is necessary, due to the job losses incurred by automation, but he says nothing about mass, Third World immigration, and he has explicitly rejected the idea of putting any conditions on the guaranteed income. Unless Höttges is a complete imbecile, which I doubt, his automation story is a fig leaf for nation-breaking economic mischief. He claims this income can be financed through taxing the profits of Internet companies, but with unemployable Moslems flooding through open borders, and Germnay bailing out drowning PIGS, a tax on Internet companies would either come up pathetically short, or would put them out of business.
Just two days ago, my VDARE colleague, James Kirkpatrick, wrote about this idea of a guaranteed income gaining steam in Holland, and anticipates it coming here. However, James drew this conclusion:
“Of course, mass immigration throws a wrench into all of this. If a European nation such as the Netherlands implements such a program on a mass scale, it will quickly displace Germany as the magnet for migrants….
“Basic Income seems inevitable and even necessary in an age of automation. The best thing for the Right to do is get ahead of the idea and push it as something targeted for citizens. If it does not, look for Basic Income to emerge as a key tenet of the Left in the years to come and something open to immigrants and noncitizens. Unless this program is set up correctly, instead of setting people free to produce and create, it will simply be a bribe for votes.”
James is right that a basic income in Holland would draw Moslem grifters, but otherwise, he is thinking in rational, economic terms. As a political matter, it is no coincidence that mass Third World invasions are accompanied by calls for a guaranteed income. The Third World grifters and their First World supporters intend to use such welfare programs to seize power. The sort of concerns that mass immigration raise for James are not a bug, but a feature to these people. They would use the votes of the new grifters to dispossess productive whites, topple the current form of government, and install a racial dictatorship.
James’ solution to “refugee” abuse here is to limit the income program to citizens, but that won’t work, either. Look at the John Doe calling himself “Barack Obama.” Anytime there is a legal or constitutional limit to his actions, he simply ignores it. These days, Angela Merkel is imitating him in Germany.
Any limitation on any welfare program in America, and probably all of Western Europe, will simply be ignored. If anyone raises objections, whoever is in the White House—assuming “Obama” ever leaves it—will issue an illegal “executive order” making what is criminal, legal, while the dictator sics his media and institutional goons on his critics.
That is why we cannot support any new welfare programs. We need to eliminate them, not add to them.

Bill Cosby is Charged with Sexually Assaulting a Woman
Associated Press
By MARYCLAIRE DALE

Associated Press/MSN
NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Bill Cosby was charged Wednesday with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home 12 years ago — the first criminal charges brought against the comedian out of the torrent of allegations that destroyed his good-guy image as America's Dad.
The case sets the stage for perhaps the biggest Hollywood celebrity trial of the mobile-all-the-time era and could send the 78-year-old Cosby to prison in the twilight of his life and barrier-breaking career.
Prosecutors accused him of rendering former Temple University employee Andrea Constand unable to resist by plying her with pills and wine, then penetrating her with his fingers without her consent, when she was unconscious or unaware of what was happening.
She was "frozen, paralyzed, unable to move," Montgomery County District Attorney-elect Kevin Steele said in announcing the charges. He said it is unclear what type of pills Constand was given, but he noted that Cosby has admitted giving Quaaludes to women he wanted to have sex with.
Cosby acknowledged under oath a decade ago that he had sexual contact with Constand but said it was consensual. Calls to his attorneys were not immediately returned.
He was to be arraigned in the afternoon on a charge of aggravated indecent assault, punishable by five to 10 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine.
The charges came down just days before the 12-year statute of limitations for bringing charges was set to run out.
The case represents an about-face by the district attorney's office, which under a previous DA declined to charge Cosby in 2005 when Constand first told police that the comic violated her by putting his hands down her pants at his home in the Philadelphia suburb of Cheltenham.
Prosecutors reopened the case over the summer as damaging testimony was unsealed in Constand's related civil lawsuit against Cosby and as dozens of other women came forward with similar accusations that made a mockery of his image as the wise and understanding Dr. Cliff Huxtable from TV's "The Cosby Show."
At that point, "reopening this case was not a question. Rather, reopening this case was our duty as law enforcement officers," Steele said.
He urged any other alleged victims to come forward as well.
Constand, who is now 42, lives in Toronto and works as a massage therapist. Her attorney, Dolores Troiani, welcomed the charges.
"She feels that they believe her, and, to any victim, that is foremost in your mind: Are people going to believe me," Troiani said.
The case adds to the towering list of legal problems facing the TV star, including defamation and sex-abuse lawsuits filed in Boston, Los Angeles and Pennsylvania. But as for criminal charges, many of the alleged assaults date back decades, and the statute of limitations has expired in nearly every case.
Cosby in 1965 became the first black actor to land a leading role in a network drama, "I Spy," and he went on to earn three straight Emmys. Over the next three decades, the Philadelphia-born comic created TV's animated "Fat Albert" and the top-rated "Cosby Show," the 1980s sitcom celebrated as groundbreaking television for its depiction of a warm and loving black family headed by two professionals — one a lawyer, the other a doctor.
He was a fatherly figure off camera as well, serving as a public moralist and public scold, urging young people to pull up their saggy pants and start acting responsibly.
Constand, who worked for the women's basketball team at Temple, where Cosby was a trustee and proud alumnus, said she was assaulted after going to his home in January 2004 for some career advice.
Then-District Attorney Bruce Castor declined to charge Cosby, saying at the time that both the TV star and his accuser could be portrayed in "a less than flattering light." This year, Castor said the allegations in Constand's lawsuit were more serious than the account she gave police, and if that information had been known at the time, "we might have been able to make a case."
Castor tried to make a comeback as district attorney in the November election but lost.
After the criminal case went nowhere, Constand settled her lawsuit against Cosby in 2006 on confidential terms.
Her allegations and similar ones from other women in the years that followed did not receive wide attention but exploded into view in late 2014, first online, then in the wider media, after comedian Hannibal Buress mocked the moralizing Cosby as a hypocrite and called him a rapist during a standup routine.
That opened the floodgates on even more allegations.
Women mostly from the world of modeling, acting or other entertainment fields came forward and described being offered a drink by Cosby and waking up to find they had apparently been sexually assaulted. Cosby, through his representatives, accused some of the women of trying to extract money from him or get ahead in show business.
Earlier this year, The Associated Press persuaded a judge to unseal documents from the Constand lawsuit, and they showed the long-married Cosby acknowledging a string of affairs and sexual encounters.
Cosby, a longtime resident of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, testified that he obtained Quaaludes in the 1970s to give to women. He denied giving women drugs without their knowledge and said he had used the now-banned sedative "the same as a person would say, 'Have a drink.'"
In the deposition, Cosby said he fondled Constand that night, taking her silence as a green light. Constand maintains she was semi-conscious after he gave her pills he said would relax her.
"I don't hear her say anything. And I don't feel her say anything. And so I continue and I go into the area that is somewhere between permission and rejection. I am not stopped," Cosby testified.
He said Constand was not upset when she left that night. She went to police a year later.
Her lawyer has said Constand is gay and was dating a woman around the time she met Cosby in the early 2000s.
The AP generally does not identify people who say they have been sexually assaulted unless they agree to have their names published, as Constand has done.
Laurie Levenson, a criminal law professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, said Cosby no longer enjoys the celebrity appeal that might sway a jury.
"His reputation has already been tarnished, so I doubt that jurors would be inclined to believe him just because of his prior image," she said in September. She said the judge in the case will have to decide whether to allow other accusers to testify or whether that would be too prejudicial.

We also have, if you go down to the bottom, past the donation links (wait, not so fast!) you`ll see we have a magnificent column by Steve Sailer, totally demolishing Malcolm Gladwell`s new book, which book a farrago of bad old ideas (the conventional wisdom) and stupid new ones—Gladwell`s own work. Gladwell is paid tens of thousands of dollars every time he makes a speech, on the condition that he not tell the truth about the social sciences he glibly discusses. We, by comparison, are asking you for a relative pittance, which we remind you is tax deductible, and remember, the end of the calendar year is fast approaching.

On December 5, the The Baltimore Sun ran the following letter from the SPLC`s Mark Potok [Email him] about me and my work for VDARE.com. Potok and the SPLC consider it crucial that the public know about our vital work, and I thank them for their PR efforts. (Mark, the check`s in the mail.)
December 5, 2008
On Wednesday, The Baltimore Sun published an attack by Ron Smith on the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights organization known nationally for its lawsuits against and investigations of white supremacist hate groups in America (“The truth about `hate crimes` and the racial justice racket,” Commentary, Dec. 3).
Aside from a great deal of unsubstantiated name-calling, Mr. Smith mentions an essay written by Nicholas Stix, a man Mr. Smith sparely describes as a “columnist and blogger.”
What Mr. Smith declines to say is that Mr. Stix is a well-known white nationalist who recently prepared a lengthy introduction to an article,* published by the National Policy Institute, that paints “a statistical and narrative portrait of the war on white America.”
In it, Mr. Stix concludes that the Brown v. Board of Education ruling outlawing school segregation was “arguably the worst decision” in the Supreme Court`s history. “Integration and the civil rights movement,” Mr. Stix continues, “led directly to the destruction of great cities.“
Many of Mr. Stix`s articles, which dwell heavily on what he sees as a huge wave of anti-white hate crime committed by black people, are archived at the VDARE Web site.
With Mr. Stix, Mr. Smith claims that the October murder of an interracial couple in Winchester, Calif., allegedly by four black men, was motivated by race hate – despite the statements of police that the motive was robbery.
Mr. Smith goes on to describe hate crime legislation as a “questionable legal construct used almost exclusively against whites.”
Actually, the concept has been ratified by the Supreme Court in a case [Wisconsin vs Mitchell, 1993] in which the defendant was a black man who had attacked whites because of their race. Yet that doesn`t stop Mr. Smith from claiming that “the truth is one thing and the liberal agenda is another.”
Mark Potok, Montgomery, Ala.
The writer is director of the Intelligence Project for the Southern Poverty Law Center.
*Actually, my good friend Mark erred, in describing me as having written “a lengthy introduction to an article.” In fact, I wrote the introduction to an over 45,000-word NPI report, The State of White America – 2007, which I edited and co-wrote, and which can be downloaded for free here.
I have a feeling that Mark neglected to read more than the introduction. I`m immensely proud of that report, which two brilliant social scientists, statistician Ed Rubinstein and historian Robert J. Stove, together wrote with me, and want everyone to read it.
I realize that Mark is terribly busy, what with phoning in race hoaxes all the time, cashing supporters` checks, and having meetings, but mightn`t it be a good thing for the director of an alleged “Intelligence Project” to spend a wee bit of time collecting … intelligence?
I appreciate that Mark incorporated the correction I had made of his misquotation of me as having called Brown, “arguably the worse [sic] decision” in the history of the U.S. Supreme Court.
As for my being a “white nationalist,” which is a leftist code phrase for “neo-Nazi,” that description will give those familiar with me and my work a hearty belly laugh. For those not yet in on the joke, the only way to “get it” is to read my work, which you can do for free! My work is accessible at archives for VDARE.com`s “front page” and blog; on my blogs, Nicholas Stix, Uncensored, The Critical Critic, Wikipedia Follies, The Zebra Project and Schuyleriana: The Work and Life of George Schuyler; and oh, about a dozen other places on the Web, give or take.
My friend Mark Potok often simply makes things up, and ignores or misrepresents as non-racial, real racial crimes such as the Wichita Massacre, Knoxville Horror, Columbia University rape-torture-attempted murder case , Kirkwood Massacre, Winchester Atrocity (and also here) and the Nation of Islam`s 1970s’ mass murder campaign.
Conversely, in the case of the racist, Jena, LA attempted murder committed against white student Justin Barker by from eight to ten black students, the SPLC not only refused to tell the truth about Barker`s ordeal, but in one propaganda release after another, turned his attackers into victims (see, for instance, here, here, here and here), and used the Jena Hoax as a means with which to defraud the American public out of millions of dollars in fundraising.
In contrast to Potok & Co., I spend thousands of hours per year researching my articles, reading books, articles and reports on the Web, and interviewing people. The books (not to mention, bookcases!) are a major expense, as are things like computers (I just bought a new one in May, and already, it`s crapping out on me) and printers, and I have less dramatic but continuing expenses for my ISP, telephone, toner, paper, etc.
But at over 60 hours per week, my biggest expense is time. I need to make money from my work. While the SPLC has shown itself willing to increase my name recognition and readership, neither Mark Potok nor the SPLC`s boss of all bosses, Morris Dees, has been willing, so far, to publish or pay me for my work. The New York Times has shown a similar reticence.
That`s where VDARE comes in. VDARE founder Peter Brimelow has been one of my biggest boosters, publishing eleven of my front-pagers [more like 100, by now] and approximately 30 of my blog essays [surely over 100]. But Peter needs your help, in order to be able to pay me. Please generously support VDARE.

Kentucky: 1,000-2,000 Ghosts Attack Mall, in a Riot that Never Happened: Attackers were Raceless and Faceless, and There Have been No Reports of Injuries or Arrests, or “Confirmation of Shots Fired Inside the Mall”
Whenever you hear about “crime falling,” think of this report, and thousands more, from around the country, by Colin Flaherty. Every time one of these riots takes place, the black rioters commit at the very least hundreds, and in this case thousands of crimes. From 1,000-2,000 young blacks at Mall St. Matthews were each guilty of disorderly conduct and felony criminal conspiracy (the riot had to have been planned, using computers and social media); hundreds were guilty of rioting; hundreds were guilty of trespassing, for refusing to leave stores, whose workers were trying to close them; hundreds were guilty variously of misdemeanor and felony assault; many were guilty of gang action; hundreds were guilty of vandalism and/or theft; and some guilty of attempted murder, and/or assault with a deadly weapon, and illegal weapons possession.
“When the disturbances began some store owners attempted to close, but some patrons refused to leave. Finally, management decided to close the entire mall early.”
Those weren’t patrons. A patron buys something in a store, and then leaves. They were trespassers and/or shoplifters.
“Several law enforcement agencies converged on the mall along with K-9s and a helicopter.”
Several agencies, K-9s, and a cop chopper? That was a massive deployment of possibly hundreds of policemen, at a cost of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars. But it “never happened.” And yet, the victims will never forget it.
What happens to a victim with health insurance who goes to the doctor for treatment of wounds from the riot that, according to police never happened? Does his healthcare insurer refuse to cover the treatment? Could he be liable for arrest for health-care fraud? Whenever the people running social institutions refuse to do their duty, they cause cascading failures.
On Christmas Eve, Bernie Sanders claimed that it was “unacceptable” that blacks were being imprisoned six times as often as whites. I responded that it was, indeed, “unacceptable.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Louisville mall has been closed for the night after several disturbances Saturday evening.
According to the St. Matthews Police Department the incidents at Mall St. Matthews may have involved as many as 1,000 to 2,000 teens.
Wave3News reports there has been no confirmation of shots fired inside the mall and no injuries or arrests have been reported.
Police first responded to the mall around 7 p.m. in response to numerous unruly youths. According to the SMPD there were several fights inside the mall and they may have spread outside. When the disturbances began some store owners attempted to close, but some patrons refused to leave. Finally, management decided to close the entire mall early.
Several law enforcement agencies converged on the mall along with K-9s and a helicopter.
Things began to settle down around 9:30 p.m.

Boy, is it ever unacceptable, but not in the way Bernie Sanders is saying!
Considering that with massive de-policing and fakestats pushing down the black crime rate; and hyper-policing, and the routine official identification of Hispanic felons as “white” inflating the white crime rate, the true black-white crime ratio must be more like 12-1.

Indicted Ex-Cop Michael Slager Sues Southern States Police Benevolent Association for Refusing to Provide for His Legal Defense
Michael Slager in chains. “Former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager, who has been charged with murder in the death of Walter Scott in April, is led into court in September in Charleston.” File/Grace Beahn/Staff
[Read my new VDARE report:
“Pray for Michael Slager, Who Spent Christmas in Solitary Confinement, an American Political Prisoner.”]
By Nicholas Stix
North Charleston Police Department Officer Michael Slager paid dues to the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, for the sole purpose of procuring his legal defense, in the event of a civil suit or criminal prosecution of him, for actions he took in the line of duty. But when Slager fatally shot Walter Scott in the line of duty on April 4, and was charged with murder, the SSPBA refused to defend him. Actually, it did provide an attorney, David Aylor, on April 4, but Aylor quit Slager on April 7. When Slager requested new counsel, the SSPBA refused. Slager is now suing the SSPBA for “Breach of Contract, Bad Faith, and Unfair Insurance Practices.”
The lawsuit was filed (pdf) by Slager’s civil attorneys, Ronald L. Richter, Jr., Scott M. Mongillo, and Eric S. Bland, of Bland Richter, LLP, on November 10. Some relevant passages follow.
80. “In selling its policy of insurance, Defendant Southern States PBA issued a wallet card to Officer Slager confirming that its policy of insurance would protect him in the event of ‘ANY DUTY RELATED SHOOTING’ and assuring that in such an event ‘AN ATTONREY [sic] WILL BE SENT TO YOU.’”
81. “Defendant Southern States PBA did not explain that the attorney would be sent to him for three days or that instead of providing a legal defense to charges stemming from an officer related shooting, Southern States PBA may unilaterally decide that the shooting was intentional and use such a determination as a basis to deny coverage.
82. “If Legal Defense Benefit plan, Policy No. 00-16 [Slager’s personal policy] does not provide legal defense coverage for the charges brought against Officer Slager following the Walter Scott shooting, then the contract is illusory and actually provides no coverage whatsoever.”
The disposition of the case may well turn on the interpretation of the SSPBA policy’s “Section 1. D. Limitations, Restrictions and Exemptions.”
f. “Southern States PBA reserves the right to withhold approval of any benefits and to withdraw approval of any benefits if it is determined at any time that the member has committed an intentional, deliberate and/or illegal act, either civilly or criminally.”
Section 1.D. is designed to give SSPBA carte blanche to get out of its contractual obligations, and denies the presumption of innocence.
How can SSPBA know if an officer has committed an “intentional, deliberate and/or illegal act,” if no court of law has made such a determination? Plus, SSPBA’s act of getting out of its contractual obligations could bring about the policy holder’s conviction in criminal court, via a self-fulfilling prophecy. The public knowledge that the SSPBA dumped its client could: 1. Poison the jury pool, by leading potential jury members to believe that the defendant is guilty of the crime for which he has been charged, simply because of SSPBA’s actions; and 2. Make it impossible for the defendant to mount an adequate defense. After the client is convicted, SSPBA can then harrumph, “We told you so!”
The SSPBA is bad news. It calls itself a “Police Benevolent Association,” but does not deserve the name. The name is apparently to deceive cops into thinking that it has their backs.
Indeed, while I was on hold waiting to speak with Charlie Cordell [the SSPBA’s lawyer], the telephone system played a self-commercial, in which a speaker emphasized that the group had no limits on spending for a policeman’s defense costs.According to Slager’s lawsuit, the SSPBA is essentially an insurance company selling policies to policemen to provide legal representation for “acts or omissions” committed in the line of duty, for which they are criminally charged, or civilly sued.
But not for Slager. [Why Don’t They Just Crucify Officer Michael Slager and Have Done with It? by Nicholas Stix, VDARE, April 30, 2015.]
If there’s one thing I learned from my neighbors, following Hurricane Sandy, it’s that insurance companies will seek any pretext to get out of paying out on policies.
The cops who have entrusted their legal protection to SSPBA are going to have to seek elsewhere.
Meanwhile, since Andy Savage has taken on Slager’s case pro bono, if Slager collects from SSPBA, Savage is going to have to collect from Slager.
The Post and Courier is running a poll at the article below.
What do you think?
Should the Southern States Police Benevolent Association have aided in Michael Slager’s defense against the murder charge in the killing of Walter Scott?
64%
Yes, he paid dues to the organization specifically for legal defense in the event he is charged with a crime.
[N.S. Full disclosure: I voted yes in the poll. Without voting, I don’t see how I could have read the results.]
29%
No, the organization should be able to decide what officers it helps defend.
7%

Michael Slager sues police fraternal group for failing to defend him in Walter Scott killing

The Post and Courier
Former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager is suing a police fraternal organization for failing to defend him against a murder charge in the killing of Walter Scott.
For complete coverage of the Walter Scott shooting, go to Walter Scott.
Slager’s civil attorneys filed the lawsuit Tuesday against Southern States Police Benevolent Association Inc. in U.S. District Court in Charleston. The suit alleges breach of contract, unfair insurance practices and bad faith. It seeks unspecified damages.
The Southern States Police Benevolent Association is made up of more than 40,000 local and federal law enforcement officers. Its chief executive officer, Jack L. Roberts, was not immediately available for comment.
Slager paid the organization a monthly fee for insurance that would provide him a legal defense if sued or charged with a crime in connection with his actions as a police officer. But the organization abandoned him after Slager was accused in April of killing Walter Scott during an on-duty confrontation, according to the lawsuit.
“For us, it’s about how Slager paid $23.50 a month for one thing — to cover him if he got accused or sued if he did something in his capacity as a police officer,” said Ronnie Richter, Slager’s attorney. “Regardless of how you feel about the Slager situation, it seems to be an outrageous act by an insurance company to deny
coverage.”
Slager faces between 30 years and life in prison if convicted of murder in Scott’s April 4 shooting death, which followed a traffic stop and a struggle between the two men. A bystander’s video of the incident showed Slager fire eight times as Scott ran away, striking the 50-year-old man five times from behind.
The shooting made North Charleston the focus of national scrutiny on police officers’ use of force against black men. Slager is white, and Scott was black.
Slager was arrested three days later after the video footage surfaced.
Slager’s coverage through the PBA entitled him to legal representation for “any duty related shooting or action which results in death or serious injury,” according to the lawsuit. He has maintained that he was acting within the scope of his duties at the time. He has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and remains jailed while awaiting trial.
The PBA initially assigned criminal defense attorney David Aylor to represent Slager. Aylor released a statement on his behalf the day before the video surfaced.
The next day, however, when Slager was charged with murder and the video of the shooting went viral around the world, Aylor withdrew as Slager’s lawyer, calling the incident “a terrible tragedy that has impacted our community.”
Slager requested that the PBA provide him with another attorney, but on April 8 the organization turned him down, the lawsuit stated. In doing so, the PBA cited a clause in its insurance coverage allowing it to withhold benefits if it determines an officer had “committed an intentional, deliberate and/or illegal act, either civilly or criminally,” the lawsuit stated.
Slager’s attorneys, however, argue in the suit that the PBA denied Slager benefits without a full and fair investigation into the matter, leaving him to foot a “substantial” legal bill on his own.
After Aylor’s departure, prominent Charleston defense lawyer Andy Savage stepped in to represent Slager and has done so ever since. Savage did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit filed on his client’s behalf.
Aylor also could not be reached for comment, though in the past he has declined to explain his decision to withdraw from the case, citing attorney-client privilege.
Representing Slager in the lawsuit against the PBA are Richter and attorney Eric Bland, who have made headlines in recent months for representing the family of Zachary Hammond, a teen who was fatally shot by a Seneca police officer in July.

Officer Michael Slager Needs Our Prayers: White Policeman Spent Christmas in Jail in Solitary Confinement, an American Political Prisoner
The black criminal and the white cop he repeatedly assaulted, while seeking to escape custody
Pray for Michael Slager, Who Spent Christmas in Solitary Confinement, an American Political Prisoner
By Nicholas Stix
Christmas Day, 9:30 p.m.
VDARE
I’m not a religious man, but I said a prayer today for Michael Slager. I hope you will, too. Slager is one of the growing number of America’s political prisoners. He has been rotting away in solitary confinement, untried but without bail, since April 7—for being a cop while white in Obama’s America.
On April 4, Officer Michael Slager had the misfortune of crossing paths with Walter Scott, a small-time criminal and ne’er-do-well, who had the good fortune of having been born black.
Officer Slager pulled over Scott for driving with a broken tail light, in a car that may have been stolen. (Scott had no title for the car, his explanation was a mass of contradictions, and the authorities have had no interest in determining the truth.)

It’s the Sixth Annual WEJB/NSU Christmas Concert!
Christmas Day, 2015:
Come and enjoy the world’s greatest singers, some still with us, and others on loan from Heaven, Purgatory, and … wherever!
In my annual travails with the “KK,” I had to find replacements for Nat King Cole singing “Christmas Song” live, the Vienna Boys’ Choir singing “The Little Drummer Boy” live, and Bing Crosby singing “Silent Night.”
I was able to find an exquisite version of “I Wonder as I Wander,” arranged by John Rutter, and performed by the Cambridge Singers, which I find the most moving carol of them all, without losing the two versions I had last year.
And most importantly, I had to replace Andrea Bocelli’s sublime singing of “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The live versions still available have poor audio quality, and so the new version is a studio recording. Maybe next year.
Christmas Day, 2014:
The Kopyright Kops and Youtube forced me to find new videos of Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and Nat Cole singing “Christmas Song” (two different versions!).
P.P.S. Christmas, 2013
We have nine new performances this year, and so far have lost only one of the older ones to the copyright cops. Kristin Chenoweth is visiting us, singing “The Christmas Waltz,” Ella Fitzgerald is giving us “Sleigh Ride,” Dean Martin is crooning “Let It Snow!,” Johnny Mathis is doing his famous rendition of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” the Harry Simeone Chorale performs “Do You Hear What I Hear?,” Andrea Bocelli and a heavenly choir sing “Angels We Have Heard on High” and, finally, Perry Como has dropped in to give not one but three very different versions of his standard, “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays.”
Enjoy!
Merry Christmas!
Christmas Day, 2012:
Ideally, you have a thingamajig to pipe these videos into your TV screen, and can settle back on your living room couch with blankets, cozy with your loved ones, with mugs of hot chocolate or real egg nog within reach. Or maybe you’re like me, sitting in front of a little computer screen, with a kid almost as big [2013: now bigger!] as you are sitting on your lap, cutting off the circulation to your thigh. (I can no longer imagine not having a kid sitting on my lap, cutting off the circulation to my thigh, no matter how big he gets!)
Whatever your station, I hope that you can put your cares away for as long as you watch these videos. The lyrics follow each song. [2013: There was no time for lyric-hunting this year for the new ones.]
The concert’s first act consists of popular, modern Christmas songs; the second of traditional, religious songs.
With best holiday wishes,
Nicholas Stix
P.S. Christmas, 2012
This year’s production contains a new version of der Bingle singing “White Christmas,” as the older version had a commercial that ran 62 seconds and, for the first time, includes “Carol of the Bells.”
I had to replace many of the previous recordings, due to the copyright cops, but I am also pleased to announce that there is one other huge, surprise addition this year--but it's not likely to remain available for long!
In case anyone is wondering why there are so many performances by Bing Crosby--that man was just born to sing Christmas music! I wish I had more of his recordings!
Enjoy!

White Christmas
Words and Music by Irving Berlin
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas,
Just like the ones I used to know,
Where the treetops glisten,
And children listen,
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas,
With every Christmas card I write,
May your days be merry and bright,
And may all your Christmases be white.
[Bridge]
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas,
With every Christmas card I write,
May your days be merry and bright,
And may all your Christmases be white.

Happy Holiday/The Holiday Season: Andy Williams
Lyrics and music for "Happy Holiday" by Irving Berlin
Music and lyrics for "The Holiday Season" by Kay Thompson
Happy holiday,
Happy holiday,
While the merry bells keep ringing,
May your every wish come true.
Happy holiday,
Happy holiday,
May the calendar keep bringing,
Happy holidays to you.
It's the holiday season,
And Santa Claus is coming back,
The Christmas snow is white on the ground,
When old Santa gets into town,
He'll be coming down the chimney, down,
Coming down the chimney, down.
It's the holiday season,
And Santa Claus has got a toy,
For every good girl and good little boy,
He's a great big bundle of joy,
He'll be coming down the chimney, down,
Coming down the chimney, down.
He'll have a big fat pack upon his back,
And lots of goodies for you and me,
So leave a peppermint stick for old St. Nick,
Hanging on the Christmas tree.
It's the holiday season,
With the whoop-de-do and hickory dock,
And don't forget to hang up your sock,
‘Cause just exactly at 12 o'clock,
He'll be coming down the chimney,
Coming down the chimney,
Coming down the chimney, down!
Happy holiday,
Happy holiday,
While the merry bells keep bringing,
Happy holidays to you.
Happy holiday,
Happy holiday,
May the calendar keep bringing,
Happy holidays to you,
To you … happy holiday (repeats to fade).

The Christmas Waltz: Frank Sinatra (with Lyrics)
Here in the Stix household, I caught some flack today over my original choice of Kristin Chenoweth. I’d been in a hurry this morning, saw her version first at Youtube, and I just so happen to be crazy about her. Granted, her saccharine performance was not up to her usual standard. And as someone pointed out, no one comes close to Sinatra, singing this song. And so, without further ado…

Merry Christmas, Darling: Karen Carpenter
Merry Christmas, Darling
Greeting cards have all been sent,
The Christmas rush is through,
But I still have one wish to make,
A special one for you.
Merry Christmas, darling,
We're apart, that's true,
But I can dream and in my dreams,
I'm Christmas-ing with you.
Holidays are joyful,
There's always something new,
But every day's a holiday,
When I'm near to you.
The lights on my tree,
I wish you could see,
I wish it every day,
Logs on the fire,
Fill me with desire,
To see you and to say.
That I wish you Merry Christmas,
Happy New Year, too,
I've just one wish,
On this Christmas Eve,
I wish I were with you.
[Bridge]
Logs on the fire,
Fill me with desire,
To see you and to say,
That I wish you Merry Christmas,
Happy New Year, too,
I've just one wish,
On this Christmas Eve,
I wish I were with you,
I wish I were with you.
Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas,
Merry Christmas … Darling.

Marshmallows for roasting,
And caroling out in the snow,
There'll be scary ghost stories,
And tales of the glories,
Of Christmases long, long ago,
It's the most wonderful time of the year,
There be much mistletoe-ing,
And hearts will be glowing,
When loved ones are near,
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
Woah, there'll be parties for hosting,
Marshmallows for roasting,
And caroling out in the snow,
There'll be scary ghost stories,

How are Things in Glocca Morra?: Kate Baldwin in Finian’s Rainbow
(To those who may ask what this song has to do with Christmas: All I know is that when I was a wee lad, it wasn’t Christmas, until you heard Ella Logan (also here) of the original, 1947 Broadway cast singing “How are Things in Glocca Morra?” on a Christmas special, or on the Ed Sullivan Show.)
How are things in Glocca Morra?
Music by Burton Lane
Lyrics by E.Y. “Yip” Harburg
How are things in Glocca Morra?
Is that little brook still leaping there?
Does it still run down to Donny cove?
Through Killybegs, Kilkerry, and Kildare?
How are things in Glocca Morra?
Is that willow tree still weeping there?
Does that laddie with the twinklin' eye
Come whistlin' by,
And does he walk away,
Sad and dreamy there, not to see me there?
So I ask each weepin' willow,
And each brook along the way,
And each lad that comes a-whistlin,'
Tooralay.
How are things in Glocca Morra,
This fine day?

Silver Bells
By Jay Livingston and Ray Evans
City sidewalks, busy sidewalks,
Dressed in holiday style,
In the air there's a feeling
Of Christmas,
Children laughing, people passing,
Meeting smile after smile,
And on every street corner you'll hear.
Silver bells,
Silver bells,
It's Christmas time in the city,
Ring-a-ling,
Hear them ring,
Soon it will be Christmas Day.
Strings of streetlights, even stoplights,
Blink of bright red and green,
As the shoppers rush home with their treasures,
Hear the snow crunch,
See the kids bunch,
This is Santa's big scene,
And above all the bustle you'll hear.
Silver bells,
Silver bells,
It's Christmas time in the city,
Ring-a-ling, hear them ring,
Soon it will be Christmas Day,
Soon it will be Christmas Day.

Here is Perry's original feel-good 1954 Christmas hit. In 1959, RCA Victor had him record a newly-arranged "replacement" stereo version that dropped the brassy big band open in favor of a more low-key intro. For decades, that was the only one that RCA would issue on its various holiday music compilations.

"(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays" is a popular song, commonly associated with the Christmas season although the lyrics are more applicable to the Thanksgiving holidays. The music was written by Robert Allen, the lyrics by Al Stillman. The song was published in 1954. The best-known recordings were made by Perry Como, who recorded the song twice. The first recording, done on November 16, 1954, was released as a single for Christmas, 1954, by RCA (catalog number 20-5950-B on 78rpm and 47-5950-B on 45rpm). Como's second recording of the song, in stereo and with a different musical arrangement, was made on July 15, 1959. It was released as a 33rpm single (RCA catalog # VP-2066)
Oh, there's no place like home for the holidays
'Cause no matter how far away you roam
When you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze
For the holidays you can't beat home sweet home
I met a man who lives in Tennessee, he was heading for
Pennsylvania and some homemade pumpkin pie
From Pennsylvania, folks are travelling
Down to Dixie's sunny shore
From Atlantic to Pacific
Gee, the traffic is terrific
Oh, there's no place like home for the holidays
'Cause no matter how far away you roam
If you want to be happy in a million ways
For the holidays you can't beat home sweet home
Take a bus, take a train
Go and hop an aeroplane
Put the wife and kiddies in the family car
For the pleasure that you bring
When you make that doorbell ring
No trip could be too far
I met a man who lives in Tennessee, he was heading for

Angels We Have Heard on High
Angels we have heard on high,
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply,
Echoing their joyous strains.

Glo-o-o-o-oria!
In excelsis Deo.
Come to Bethlehem and see,
Christ whose birth the angels sing,
Come adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
Glo-o-o-o-oria!
In excelsis Deo,
Glo-o-o-o-oria!
In excelsis Deo.
See him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise,

Do You Hear What I Hear?
Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night,
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song, high above the trees,
With a voice as big as the sea,
With a voice as big as the sea."
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A child, a child shivers in the cold—
Let us bring him silver and gold,
Let us bring him silver and gold."
Said the king to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The child, the child sleeping in the night,
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light."

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
By Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light,
From now on,
Our troubles will be out of sight.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
Our troubles will be miles away.
Here we are, as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore,
Faithful friends who are dear to us,
Gather near to us, once more.
Through the years,
We all will be together,
If the fates allow,
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough,
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
[Bridge]
Here we are, as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore,
Faithful friends who are dear to us,
Gather near to us, once more.
Through the years,
We all will be together,
If the fates allow,
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough,
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Christmas Song: Judy Garland & Mel Torme
In case you’re wondering, and I’m sure you are, I don’t have a video of Nat Cole singing “Christmas Song,” because his heirs have made it impossible. “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by King Cole Partners, LP.
Sorry about that.”
[Christmas, 2015: The KK deleted my previous live version of Cole singing "Christmas Song," but I was able to find a not-yet-deleted upload today.
Christmas Song
By Mel Torme and Robert Wells
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping on your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.
Everybody knows, a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright,
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.
They know that Santa's on his way,
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh,
And every mother's child is going to spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.
And so I'm offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although it’s been said many times, many ways,
Merry Christmas … to you.
[Bridge]

Here We Come A-Caroling/We Wish You a Merry Christmas: Perry Como & Co.
Uploaded on Dec 1, 2010 by ChistmasTimeTV.
Here We Come A-Caroling
(The Wassail Song) – Traditional
The wassail bowl was a combination of hot ale or beer, spices, and mead, alcoholic enough to warm a cold caroler.
Here we come a-caroling among the leaves so green,
Here we come a-wand'ring so fair to be seen,
Love and joy come to you,
And to you glad Christmas too,
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.
We are not daily beggars that beg from door to door,
But we are neighbors' children whom you have seen before,
Love and joy come to you,
And to you glad Christmas too,
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.
God bless the master of this house, likewise the mistress too,
And all the little children that round the table go,
Love and joy come to you,
And to you glad Christmas, too,
And God bless you and send you a Happy New Year,
And God send you a Happy New Year.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer.
We won't go until we get some,
We won't go until we get some,
We won't go until we get some, so bring some out here.
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir
This spot was previously held by Bing Crosby, singing a medley of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear: Bing Crosby,” but the copyright cops came along at some point over the past year, handcuffed der Bingle, and hauled him off to gaol.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Words by Charles Wesley,
Music by Felix Mendelssohn
Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled,"
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies,
With the angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Christ by highest heaven adored,
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of a Virgin's womb,
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see,
Hail the incarnate Deity,
Pleased as man with man to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled,"
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies,
With the angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in His wings,
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth;
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! The herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled,"
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies,
With the angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
Edmund Hamilton Sears
It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold:
"Peace on the earth, goodwill to men
From heavens all gracious King!"
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.
Still through the cloven skies they come,
With peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats,
O'er all the weary world:
Above its sad and lowly plains,
They bend on hovering wing,
And ever o'er its Babel sounds,
The blessed angels sing.
O ye beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way,
With painful steps and slow,
Look now, for glad and golden hours,
Come swiftly on the wing,
Oh rest beside the weary road,
And hear the angels sing.
For lo! the days are hastening on,
By prophets seen of old,
When with the ever-circling years,
Shall come the time foretold,
When the new heaven and earth shall own,
The Prince of Peace, their King,
And the whole world send back the song,
Which now the angels sing.

I Wonder as I Wander: The John Brown University Choir
(Yes, the video looks awful, and the mike needed to be closer, but bear with it. The soprano sings like an angel and, as Maureen Hegarty and Barbra Streisand's versions make all too clear, this song requires a soprano.)

I Wonder as I Wander
I wonder as I wander out under the sky,
How Jesus the Savior did come for to die,
For poor on'ry people like you and like I,
I wonder as I wander out under the sky.
When Mary birthed Jesus 'twas in a cow's stall,
With wise men and farmers and shepherds and all,
But high from God's heaven, a star's light did fall,
And the promise of ages it then did recall.
If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing,
A star in the sky or a bird on the wing,
Or all of God's Angels in heaven to sing,
He surely could have it, 'cause he was the King.
I wonder as I wander out under the sky,
How Jesus the Savior did come for to die,
For poor on'ry people like you and like I,
I wonder as I wander out under the sky.

Silent Night: Bing Crosby
Silent Night
Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon’ Virgin Mother and Child,
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight,
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing, Alleluia!
Christ, the Savior is born,
Christ, the Savior is born.
Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love's pure light,
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

Deck the Halls: Bing Crosby
Deck the Halls
By Sonal Panse
Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la,
'Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la,
Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la la la, la la la la,
Troll the ancient Yultide carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
See the blazing Yule before us,
Fa la la la la, la la la la,
Strike the harp and join the chorus,
Fa la la la la, la la la la,
Follow me in merry measure,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la,
While I tell of Yuletide's treasure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la, la la la la,
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Sing we joyous all together,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la,
Heedless of the wind and weather.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir
Thanks to Mormon Channel for the upload.
Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie,
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep,
The silent stars go by,
Yet in thy dark streets shineth,
The everlasting light,
The hopes and fears of all the years,
Are met in thee tonight.
For Christ is born of Mary,
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep,
Their watch of wondering love,
O morning stars together,
Proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to men on earth.
How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts,
The blessings of His heaven,
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.
O holy Child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray,
Cast out our sin and enter in,
Be born to us today,
We hear the Christmas angels,
The great glad tidings tell,
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel.

O Come, All Ye Faithful
O Come, All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
O Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God's holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,

German [?] translation by Adam Storck from
"The Lady of the Lake" by Sir Walter Scott
Ave Maria! Ave Maria! maiden mild!
Listen to a maiden's prayer!
Thou canst hear though from the wild,
Thou canst save amid despair.
Safe may we sleep beneath thy care,
Though banish'd, outcast and reviled -
Maiden! hear a maiden's prayer;
Mother, hear a suppliant child!
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria! undefiled!
The flinty couch we now must share
Shall seem this down of eider piled,
If thy protection hover there.
The murky cavern's heavy air
Shall breathe of balm if thou hast smiled;
Then, Maiden! hear a maiden's prayer;
Mother, list a suppliant child!
Ave Maria!
Ave Maria! stainless styled!
Foul demons of the earth and air,
From this their wonted haunt exiled,
Shall flee before thy presence fair.
We bow us to our lot of care,
Beneath thy guidance reconciled;
Hear for a maid a maiden's prayer,
And for a father hear a child!

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen: Bing Crosby
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
In Bethlehem, in Israel,
This blessed Babe was born
And laid within a manger
Upon this blessed morn
The which His Mother Mary
Did nothing take in scorn
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
From God our Heavenly Father
A blessed Angel came;
And unto certain Shepherds
Brought tidings of the same:
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by Name.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
"Fear not then," said the Angel,
"Let nothing you affright,
This day is born a Saviour
Of a pure Virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in Him
From Satan's power and might."
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoiced much in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding
In tempest, storm and wind:
And went to Bethlehem straightway
The Son of God to find.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
And when they came to Bethlehem
Where our dear Saviour lay,
They found Him in a manger,
Where oxen feed on hay;
His Mother Mary kneeling down,
Unto the Lord did pray.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Good King Wenceslas: York Minster 1995 Choir and Soloists
Good King Wenceslas
Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel
"Hither, page, and stand by me
If thou know'st it, telling
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?"
"Sire, he lives a good league hence
Underneath the mountain
Right against the forest fence
By Saint Agnes' fountain."
"Bring me flesh and bring me wine
Bring me pine logs hither
Thou and I will see him dine
When we bear him thither."
Page and monarch forth they went
Forth they went together
Through the rude wind's wild lament
And the bitter weather
"Sire, the night is darker now
And the wind blows stronger
Fails my heart, I know not how,
I can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps, my good page
Tread thou in them boldly
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly."
In his master's steps he trod
Where the snow lay dinted
Heat was in the very sod
Which the Saint had printed
Therefore, Christian men, be sure
Wealth or rank possessing
Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing

Joy to the World: Bing Crosby
Joy to the World
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

The First Noel
The First Noel
The First Noel, the Angels did say,
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay,
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter's night that was so deep,
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel!
They looked up and saw a star,
Shining in the East beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night,
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel!
And by the light of that same star,
Three Wise men came from country far,
To seek for a King was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went,
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel!
This star drew nigh to the northwest,
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest,
And there it did both pause and stay,
Right o'er the place where Jesus lay,
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel!
Then entered in those wise men three,
Full reverently upon their knee,
And offered there in His presence,
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense,
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel!
Then let us all with one accord,
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord,
That hath made Heaven and earth of nought,
And with his blood mankind has bought,
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel!

Lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky
Hark! How the bells, sweet silver bells,
All seem to say, throw cares away,
Christmas is here, bringing good cheer,
To young and old, (meek and the bold),
Ding, dong, ding, dong, that is their song,
With joyful ring, (all caroling),
One seems to hear words of good cheer,
From everywhere, (filling the air),
O, how they pound, raising the sound,
O’er hill and dale, telling their tale.
Gaily they ring, while people sing,
Songs of good cheer, Christmas is here!
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas!
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas!
On, on they send, on without end,
Their joyful tone to every home,
(Hark! How the bells, sweet silver bells,
All seem to say, throw cares away),
Christmas is here, bringing good cheer,
To young and old, (meek and the bold),
Ding, dong, ding, dong, that is their song,
With joyful ring, (all caroling),
One seems to hear words of good cheer,
From everywhere, (filling the air),
O, how they pound, raising the sound,
O'er hill and dale, telling their tale.
Gaily, they ring, while people sing,
Songs of good cheer, Christmas is here!
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas!
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas!
My son just found this for me [2012]. I was tempted to retroactively add it to the Christmas Concert, but instead decided to publish it separately, since otherwise, many readers would miss it until next year. At that time, I’ll add it to the concert.
The Artist: Traditional Music of unknown author
Composition Date: Unknown
Composition Info: A traditional Ukrainian song, known as “Schedryk.” The legend of the “lastivochka” (“The Swallow”), recounted in a winsome folk song, was given a harmonious arrangement by Mykola Leontovych, and traveled to the United States in 1922 with Alexander Koshetz and the touring Ukrainian National Chorus. American composer Peter J. Wilhousky added new lyrics, upped the tempo, and named the song, “Carol of the Bells.”
