For Whom the Bells Toll (Newtown Massacre)

By Nicholas Stix

[This is a footnote to:

“‘Twenty-Six’: The Media’s Hatred of the Lanza Family Knows No End”.]

Do not ask for whom the bell tolls
It tolls for thee.
So wrote famously Scottish poet Robert Donne. But no bells toll in Newtown, Connecticut, for murder victim Nancy Lanza.

This morning at 9:30 a.m., Newtown observed a moment of silence, and tolled bells for the 20 first-graders and six school staffers that Adam Lanza murdered exactly one week ago. Indeed, across the country, church bells tolled 26 times.

Church bells across the country rang 26 times Friday morning—one for each of the victims killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School —to mark the one-week anniversary of the Connecticut shootings.

[“Church Bells Rings 26 Times to Honor Newtown Victims; Nation observes moment of silence to remember victims one week after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting,” by Emily Feldman and Daniel Macht, December 21, 2012, updated 10:01 a.m. EST.]
But no bells tolled for Nancy Lanza.

A “reporter” for NBC New York kept talking about the number “26”: “Twenty-six Christmas trees.” She spoke of “kindness” and “love.”

The Boss responded, “And they’re talking about ‘kindness.’ Talking about ‘love.’ They’re wicked.”

  1. Barring any additional facts, Mrs Lanza through her gross negligence, may have finally stuck a fork in the right to bear arms--not to mention enabling the havoc her wacko son dealt to those poor kids and their families.

I'm running a little short in the sympathy dept. myself.

  2. I just saw an interview with Don Lemon on CNN. They were of course discussing mostly Liberal rhetoric bu then near the end they had a guest on. He was suggesting that most mass murderers are white and the conversation suddenly turned to whether or not we should start profiling white males. The guest, who was white looking to me, even went so far as to say if it was a black guy who had done this horrible shooting that they would not be having such a pleasant conversation and said that it was a form of 'white privilege' because they were having such a rational discussion.

This incident has already been blamed on everything from video games to gun laws but they always seem to slink away whenever anyone mentions the obvious cause which is of course mental illness. People who are mentally sound can play violent video games all day and they don't decide to go on a killing spree. Mentally stable people can own 10 assault rifles and never shoot up a school.

And i did notice that they never include Adam's mother in the list of victims and in some cases she is even demonized. Typical liberal bias in my opinion. The mother doesnt fit into their neat little package they are trying to sell this story in.

I will also say this, as unpopular as I am sure this opinion will be. I would also consider Adam himself to be victim 28 in all of this. I realize he did a horrible crime and I understand why no one would be sympathetic to him, but I can't feel that somewhere along the line he was just abandoned by society or became lost. Ironically, all the hypocrites praying in church for the victims should also be praying for Adam Lanza. After all, his soul needs prayers and forgiveness more than anyone else in this horrible incident.

And to be clear, by saying Adam Lanza was also victim, I am in no way disrespecting those he murdered. But people have to remember that when Adam was a little boy, he didn't sit in his room planning to do a mass killing when he grew up. He worried about the same thing all kids worry about. Just somehow, somewhere it all went wrong for him.
