LEAGUE CITY — A man accused of stabbing a stranger in a store parking lot remained jailed Monday after he was spotted by a Webster jailer and arrested at a hospital, authorities said.
Bond for Isaac Reshard James, 27, was set at $40,000 on a charge of aggravated assault with a knife, stemming from a 1:10 p.m. Sunday incident in a CVS parking lot, 2700 W. Main St., League City police said.
James didn’t know Jason Piazza, 35, who was wounded in the lower back and taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, League City police Sgt. John Jordan said. Piazza was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
“The victim was stabbed in the back while standing next to his friend’s vehicle in the CVS parking lot,” Jordan said.
When police found James, he had not been charged. He was released to the care of an ambulance crew, who took him to Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Webster for treatment of a cut on his hand. Police allege he suffered the cut during the assault.
“Shortly after getting to the emergency room, he left without being treated,” Jordan said. “During this time, charges were accepted and the Webster Police Department was notified of the suspect’s description.”
Steve Alonzo, a Webster jailer, was headed to pick up prisoner meals at the medical center when he heard the call dispatched, Tom Claunch, Webster deputy chief of police, said.
“He took it upon himself to drive around and saw the suspect hiding behind the building,” Claunch said.
James was arrested at the medical center, Jordan said. Police had no motive for the incident as of Monday, he said.
